Has anyone tried the Tornado Air device that fits in the air intake hose of your vehicle? I am skeptical but curious. The claim is that it increases fuel mileage and horse power. Does it, or does it just increase the horse s#$t?
Thanks, Dave.

Dave- I'm in the same boat but since they have a 30 day money back guarantee I bit the bullet and put one in my wife's van. It's been installed for about 2 1/2 weeks and the jury's still out. The first refill yielded worse mpg than the van's been getting but the second was the best it's ever gotten. I figure I'll see what it gets this next week for mileage then make a decision whether the Tornado stays in or gets returned. I don't know about the hp difference as I don't drive it. And the only reason I bought it was for the claimed mpg increase. I'll let you know what shakes out this next week.
Has anybody had a Tornado installed long-term? Is there any difference in mpg over the long-haul? It would help me make a decision whether to keep it or not as my sample size for comparison is going to be quite small (3 refills). Thanks!

Its a con. If anything it will hurt your power and mpg. Because it is simply powered by pulling air through useing the vaccum of the engine, it speeds up the air it allows through, but blocks a lot of the air flow you would be getting without. Don't use it save your money

Cowboy, just wandering if you have actually tried it? I don't have much faith in it but there is one on my brothers truck and he says he is getting about 18mpg highway but he won't take it out to see what happens. It was there when he bought the truck and the previous owner told him that it really helped. I know that his truck should be getting about 15 mpg at best and probably less than that the the way he drives . It is a strong pulling truck to be a stock 350 with oversize tires..
Thanks.

I never has used one but I know most things that are powered by the intake just hurts it. Essentially a tornado is just a fake turbo. 18 mpg is not unusual with a 350. and if he is street driving and highwaying mostly bigger tires can acctully improve mpg. For instance with stock tires my rear end ration is 3.55:1 with my larger tires my ratio goes to 3.38:1 and my milage on the highway goes from 13 to almost 18. I hope my information seems useful not anything else.

Cowboy, I understand about the tires changing effective gear ratio, and if it was all highway driving I might could believe 18mpg. His driving is mostly city with jack-rabbit starts and gear down to stop. When he does hit the highways its up to 10-20mph above speed limit about as quick as he can get there. Suffice it to say that his driving habits are not conducive to good gas mileage. He just loves W.O.T.
I know my description of his habits sound a little like they may be exagerated, but believe me they aren't. I drive fast myself but there have been plenty of times that I have backed off instead of trying to keep up.How he keeps from getting more tickets than he does I'll never know. Anyway.....
Thanks for the info and help.
Dave.

I remember reading somewhere that as a project in SAE school a group of students tested one of these tornado devices and found that it didn't provide the advertised claims. I haven't used one so I can't speak from experience, but I have read a lot more bad press than good on it. I wouldn't spend my money on it, but if it works for you, great. Lord knows with gas prices the way they are we truck drivers need all the help we can get. FWIW I drive an '89 GMC 350 single cab short bed. This is a throtle body injection engine. All I have done to it is a K&N air filter, bosh P4 plugs and run Mobile 1 1030 synthetic in it. I consitantly get 18.5 and 19mpg on the interstate driving 75mph its get 17-17.5 around town. Sometimes trucks just get better milage than they should, these are the ones to hold on to.
