What was the original finish and color of one of the True Temper square rods from the 30s or earlier?

They are a light grey color. I still have one here. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks, I have two. Both belonged to my grandad. They are the best creek and brush fishing rods. I need to kill the rust on them and resurface them.
