I have been "tracked" by a big cat once. Didn't like it a bit. You never know what may confront you when you step off the blacktop. A firearm of good size and the knowledge to use it will assure your return to civilization.

I just got one of these in for my S&W 329PD. It is super light and very secure. I love it when I order something in the mail and when the box shows up and the item is so damn light that for a second you think the box might be empty. I really like the holster. I went with the butt position down. It is a very natural draw and it seems that it is easier to access the handgun when my backpack rather than the butt up position. Also, it seems to keep the handgun from interferring with my binos. I will post a review after I get some miles on it.

That's a Survival Sheath Systems chest holster.

My 10MM Glock wears one and they are nice for about 100 bucks.

Another vote for the Kit Bag. As CCH said earlier, it's VERY nice to not only have instant access to your pistola, but also the smaller stuff you'd normally scatter in all your pockets, or keep in the top pouch of your pack. It's also THE ANSWER for mountain bikers IMO........both on the trail and around town. I own 'em in Foliage and Coyote, but Ranger Green has really been whispering in my ear.

And also another vote for the EPS Tanker. As a stand alone holster it's very practical, and very, very well made. The cheap imported knock-offs probably work about as well, but they can't touch the materials and workmanship of the EPS.

The Safepacker is pretty good too, has a flap to keep rain and debris out, and doesn't look like a holster. The fastening system is velcroed but sturdy, goes right on the waist belt:

I have had one of these for several years and love it. Two legged predators usually have no idea what it is.

I bought the Hill People Gear Kit bag and have been playing around with it at home the past few days. Very slick and will get out hiking with it the next couple weeks. It looks as if it should work well for my uses.

I like the idea of sewing a "Lowe Camera" or REI or other innocuous label on it, just to add to the deception.

that's a great idea Jraw, when the MIL gets back I've got to put her to work

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

i don't see the S&W 329 PD on their list of guns...did you custom order it?

Guns don't kill people, drivers with cell phones kill people.
