I just aquired a 270 and am looking to start reloading it once I aquire dies. I am wondering if there is any "consensus" on what 2 different bullets will "most likely" shoot well. I am not interested in "premium" bonded or monometal bullets. Just run of the mill cup and cores. What 2 would be your first choices for small to medium southern white tail deer. Thank you. RBH

I would start with the hornady 130 interlock and the sierra 130 spitzer

Hard to beat the Hornady 130 grain Interlock for starters (I have also had good luck over the years with the Speer 130 HotCor - but it is being discontinued). I do have an old Ruger M77 that shoots the Hornady 140 grain Interlock better than the 130 - both bullets have responded very well to H4831SC.

With the 270 win. my best groups were with 130gr Sierra pro-hunter, pushed by IMR 4064...and the 150gr Sierra gameking, also with IMR4064,
i hope this helps.

Keep the feedback coming, my rifle is a new Weatherby Vanguard 270 in wood stock, from academy for $350. Too good of a deal to pass up. Now I just have to figure out what will make it shoot. Target that came with it had < MOA group (for what that's worth). If I remember right from other threads, a lot of people have good results using H4831 SC.

The Hornady 140gr BTSP Interlock is an excellent Deer bullet.

I like the 130 Nosler Ballistic tip and the 130 Interlock. Both over Imr 4831 and mag primers.

Well the .270 Winchester started out with the 130 grain bullet years ago, it shoots fast and flat, it kills medium size thin skinned animals like antelope and deer quickly. You jump up to the 150 grain Nosler Partition and you have very good elk medicine in your hands too.

I myself use the Nosler Partition in the 160 grain bullet for several decades and it works like a charm on most any animal you can pick out in the lower 48. I would shy away from grizzly bear but it certainly would kill one on a broadside presentation. I have had good luck with Nosler, Hornady, TBBC bullets and Swift A Frames.

I never had good luck myself w/130s, so I use what's worked in the past, 140 Accubonds will get loaded next, have some 150 BTs that always shot better for me than 130s (back before 140s).

The extra 10-20gr may not be needed to kill, but I do like the higher bc and sd you get, the 'Gack' looks better, and my former rifles just shot better with 150s.

I personally would start with 140 BTs for deer, accubonds for all game, and go to 150 BTs and Partitions if you want a little more bullet. Re: Hornady's above - I always had good luck w/that brand in many rifles, and the price is often better, accurate and kill fine.

You own a nice rifle.....at a good price. Enjoy.

140 Accubond would serve you well for anything in North America except Brown Bears.

x2...... This combo works in every 270 that I've owned and several I didn't own. Heard it puts down venison too cool

If you try the 130grain Interlocks and like them, let me know. I got in on that "promo" deal Hornady has out and have 100 of them headin my way, although it may take a month or 2 to get them. I won't be using them. I'm using 110grain TTSXs

Reloader 22 works real well with 130 grain bullets in both the 270's I have tried it in.

I've owned a few .270's over the years and always found the 150 gr. bullets to shoot best for me, usually with a top charge of H4831.

Right now the only .270 I own is in WSM. It seems temperamental but still performs best with the 150's.

For me 130 grain partitions and 60 grains of H4831SC. For fun I use the sierra in 130 and the same load. Both shoot great. I never got that great of accuracy with the 150's.

130gr Horn. SST//57.3gr of H-4831SC//Win. LRP//oal of 3.339. If I remember right, it was running somewhere close to 3,000fps out of my Weatherby Vanguard w/24" barrel. I do know that with proper shot placement--ya don't do much tracking.

For the 270 Win, the 130 gr is what made it famous.
Pick up some Nosler seconds from Shooters Pro Shop.

130 gr BT with H4831 is the classic load. RL 22 is also excellent.
Some 130 gr AB and PT seconds would cover most game and almost at the std cup and core price.

In the 270's my family shoot we have always found the 140 and 150 grain bullets shoot better, so you use them. The Hornady 140 grain has been a favorite. Recently I discovered the 150 Nosler BT to be very accurate but haven't used it on game. The Hornady, Nosler, Sierra 140's all shot well and have been deadly on game. The Nosler 160 PT is a real dandy for elk.

I've been running 130 gr Speer boattails for years. I started with Sierra's but they seemed a bit on the 'tender' side so I switched to Speers. I recently got a new barrel, I've got some Hornady 130 flat base and 140 BTSP to try out.

BTW, Sierra 110's are a great groundhog bullet.
