DMc-nice #3's.
cessna152-that's some of the nicest wood I've seen on an RSI.

Generally, there ain't a lot that separates the two however, Barely making it is a whole lot more satisfying than barely not making it.

Thank you AJD, not many people share enthusiasm for our own rifles. You're a kind generous man.

I dunno DMc, for me, the #3s just seem like a hunters rifle. Kinda rugged, bare bones, no nonsense. Short, handy, quick to the shoulder, good in close quarters. To me they have a lot of appeal. I have one in 375win and one in 22Hornet, I like em both. I'm taking the 375win on a limited draw hog hunt in Aug.
Kinda of a geterdun rifle.

My #1 RSI in 30-06. Not fancy, in fact it's kinda plain but it shoots and handles so nicely that I rarely grab any other rifle for any task.

My 1S in 38-55...........
one of these days I'll find a 7x57 RSI with some pretty wood, and a .223B donor to rechamber to .225 Win, then I'll have to decide which one is my favorite.
others in the cabinet that are fondled and sometimes used
1H - 458 Win 1H - 375 H&H 1H - 405 Win seems to be a true shortage of dangerous game in the neighborhood
1S - 4570 1S - 9.3x 74R 1S - 7mm Rem Mag 1A - 30.06 1KA - 6.5X55 Swede

Turnbull does color case hardening on the Ruger. Check his website. Thanks, will do! I guess I will have to say that my favorite right now is my 1A in 6.5 Swede (the recent blued run). Of course, it is my only one right now too so I guess it is an easy choice

WE, that is not a hard choice when you only have one! Anyway, the 1A blue 6.5x55 is as good of one as you can have when only having one. You should see that .25-06 AB that you swapped off to me a year or so ago. It is now custom stocked and a real,REAL beauty. My Cousin gave me the blank and Sonny McMillan of Pearland, TX did the stock. Pictures are in process. Shot it last weekend. Whatever "issues" it had for you, it did not exhibit those with the Hornady 90 gr. GMX Superformance ammo. Still want to try the 100 gr. TSX's in it. As for me and my favorite No.1, that is a really difficult question. I have several early rifles that are quite collectable that I don't shoot. Some of these once belonged to Writers/Shooters oft mentioned in the Forums. On the shooting ones, it is kinda which one I am now using. This deer season it will be the newly cataloged RSI in .300 RCM. Lucked out and got one with as nice of wood as you will find on current production rifles. Last deer season, it was a 1A in .300 RCM. For the several years prior to that, it was/still is, a Circassian stocked .25-06 AH with a 2.5x8 Leupold B&C. These 24" A weight barrels are a joy to handle and carry-and shoot! If I were pinned down to just 1(really 2) hunting rifle, it would be the .25-06 AH, including the one I got from War Eagle; actually, that is 2 rifles.

I am tickled to hear that it is working out for you. For some reason that one gave me fits but I will admit I didn't give it much attention either. I would love to see some pictures when you get them. I need to get some better pictures of my Swede. I really lucked out on the wood. Here is a crappy cell pic just to give everybody an idea: Talk about a crap shoot, I told my dealer to order it from Lipsey's. They grab one, ship, open it up for me and that is what popped out. I will admit the other side of the butt and the forearm is nowhere near as nice but I was still pretty ecstatic when I saw it. I still need to scope it and get it on the bench. I have run a few rounds through it just so I can say I fired it but nothing that will give me an idea of its accuracy potential. I hope to remedy that very soon.

WE-very nice. My 6.5x55 will share time with the 257Roberts this fall. Tough choosing between those two. BTW my Swede is very accurate with RL19 and 130ABs. I have loaded some 120s but have yet to try them.
El Numbero Uno-it is tough deciding on just one. I really like the 1AH, but more because of where I hunt more than anything else, I favor the 1As. If it were more open it would probably get the nod.
The shorter barrel works better for my situations. I do like the clean barrel on the 1AH. I found the balance of the 1AH is very similar to the balance of my 1As. Perhaps because of the sights on the 1As.
They are all nice rifles.

WE, Now that is a nice piece of wood for current production No.1's! They rarely have both sides that spectacular. My .300 RCM RSI is kind of that way. I have had, and sold, several of the blue 1A's in 6.5x55. Seems like all had nicer wood than what I got on the 1A's in .308. The best wood of all on the 6.5x55's I got has the very slightest nick on the top of the comb when the rings came out of the package in shipping. Anyone still looking for one of these to hunt with, this one is $935 shipped to your FFL. I don't think you will be disappointed and you will probably ding it worse than this on your first hunting outing!

In 2007 I won an on line auction for a used Ruger #1V 223. It cost me $500 + $30 shipping + $12 FFL. I cleaned the Copper out, and shot this target at 100 yards.

I don't currently own a #1, but my favorite of all those I have owned, seen or handled, by far, is the AH. It is what the B should have been from the get-go. Good looks of the smooth barreled B, but light weight like an A, I just don't understand why Ruger doesn't carry it as a cataloged item...

I just picked up my 1-A 22 Hornet from Luxus and I cant wait to get the scope on it and hit the range and shoot the outlaw varmints in my neck of the woods. It is a beautiful light rifle that shoots really good. I am very happy to have it back looking this good. I had it built to be handed down to my youngest son in a few years. Holy balls Batman!! That's awesome +P! Beautiful work poured into an elegantly simple platform, and chambered in a humble little over-achieving cartridge. A skeleton steel butt plate would be the only improvement I can imagine. Simply SUPERB!
