Just curious what year everyone is shooting? Personally, I never saw enough of an advancement in bows to change one out every couple of years, but I know people that do.
My first bow was a 1992 PSE. Bought a new one in 2002. Now after pricing new cable/string, wondering if I should just get a new one. My 2002 Martin was like $300.
Thanks.

I have a 2000 or maybe 2001 Mathews MQ-32. I don't shoot enough to justify getting a new one though. I also have a couple recurves, but that technology doesn't seem to change a lot, so a newer one wouldn't really be an upgrade.

Bought a new PSE Carrera in ~98/9. Still using it. Speedwise it hangs in there with modern stuff, however, new styles are smaller and quieter..

Yes, get a new one. I just went through the same thing, and was surprised that bows had actually changed a lot since my last one (bought in 2005). What surprised me is that so many of the bows, even from different makers, all felt pretty much the same, in the way they shot for me, and were quiet right out of the box.

I believe my Mathews Drenalin LD is a 2008, shoots like a dream and I don't see a reason for me to get a newer one.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

My problem is, I am not an archery only nut, so it is hard to justify spending more on a bow, than what a gun costs. I always though, if you can hit what you aim at with your bow, then what's the difference?
Learning bows are like computers though, within a year they aren't worth dick.

I shoot a 2004-2005 Archery Research AR31 and lately I've been looking at newer models. I'll likely keep this one for this year and upgrade next year.
I refuse to buy new current model bows anymore though because of the fact that bows drop so dramatically in price in a year or two. Even the top brand names. I'll go with a used bow from the last year or two and save half the money I'd spend on new.

Same here and I don't shoot my bow as much as some people do. I usually practice a couple of weeks before I plan to use it on a hunt. What I have found is my bow is just like my rifle and once it is sighted in there is no need to fiddle with it unless I drop it or something on it breaks.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Mathews Switchback for me, bought in 2007 I believe. Best bow I've ever owned. Before this one I bought a new one every other year. If I were going to buy new I would go with the Mathews Z7 or one of the upper end Bowtech's. Secretly I'm in the process of switching to traditional. Anxious to see if I can make it.
For what its worth, good archery equipment is like anything else, buy quality and maintain. Should last as long as you need it to.

Had it refinished last summer, so lookin' new again.
Had a new 68" Deathwish longbow built this winter.
Amazing piece of art. Bamboo on the inner laminate, and bocote on the outer. Need to take some pics......

I shoot 3 bows. My oldest is my Ben Pearson Mustang I bought new back in '67 or '68 I believe. Second is a Bear, Black Bear from about the same period or perhaps a little earlier. It's a Grayling bow and I don't remember when Bear moved from Grayling. Third is a Hoyt Pro Hunter from about 1973 or '74. I expect my bows are older than a lot of you fella's....lol!!

Yep, just bought a new Hoyt Rampage XT $599 + tax.
A follow up on my post above, on why I said buy a new one - I shoot a lot, so wear out strings, cables, and parts every couple of years. Replacing strings and cables isn't that bad, but at some point you'll have a difficult, if not impossible, time finding replacement parts; it seems that the parts always tend to fail a couple weeks before the season starts...

Not as old as my Grandfather's ancient selfbow or his first year Kodiak Magnum, but my oldest osage selfbow is around 40 years old. I no longer use it for big game, but I use it now and then for small game. Don't use my Grandfather's bows anymore for fear they'll break. This is my modern high-tech laminated longbow I've used this last decade. It's my main bow for everything, except for bow fishing. For that I favor my 20 year old Critter Gitter. Best

Nice to see several bows of different ages here. Been shooting my 2002 a lot, and really see no shortcomings. Just ordered a new rest, so might be fun to upgrade it.

1997 Hoyt Tenacity. I think about this period bows took a significant step forward.Every year I look at all the very cool and expensive stuff like a Carbon Element(WOW!!) and then I take my Tenacity out and shoot nice groups with very little practice. I put new strings on it last year and it shot better than ever. Getting 260FPS with a 27" draw @62lb, that will get the job done.

I started bow hunting in the 60's with a custom made recurve @ 63# full draw then moved to a PSE Compound set at 72# and found it more user friendly then modernized to the bow I use now....
I love to bow hunt and as hunting goes,it may be the hunting method of the future here in Idaho.

1996 Browning Spectrum II. 54# @ 29" still shoots great. Got it in for a tune up right now as a matter of fact. I have not hunted it in all the years I have owned it but I have gone through a couple of targets with it!! Going to hunt PA with it this year though if I get a deer and it fires me up I will probably order a new long bow or recurve and get back in to that realm. I really like the simplicity and light weight.

I want a Mathews Z7 Extreme! I thought I was happy with my old Mathews Z-Max.

2006 BowTech Tribute. It was a huge step up from my two previous bows, and does everything I need it to do.

I have and shoot and hunt with dozens of compounds, recurves, longbows, and flatbows, none newer than 10 years old and most older than 20. A couple by Indian Archery are probably about 70 years, and another by AMF/Wing probably around 50 YO. The new bows are fast and wonderful to shoot, but there's just no way I'm gonna spend $1400 on a friggin bow.
Our God reigns. Harrumph!!! I often use quick reply. My posts are not directed toward any specific person unless I mention them by name.

I run an old wing recurve (don't know the year) and a 96 Apline extreme. I've given away all my old compounds to friends and relatives. I used to get a new compound every few years. Obviously it's be a while. Funny I've looking on line at new bows but I'm not seeing anything that really turns my crank.
Thinking a nice long bow would be just the ticket for calling bulls?

Now that I've sold my '73 Bear Grizzly, I'm using an '86 Darton 30MX.

I actually called martin and talked to them about their new bows, compared to mine. The guy was honest and told me that performance wise, the new bows aren't better than the one I have. He said the new ones might be quieter and perhaps vibrate less, but that was about it. Not much of a sales pitch...

A 2011 Hickory long bow bought of Ebay for 50 bucks. It pulls a little over 60 pounds at 26 inches.

Bought an 07 Diamond Black Ice in 2008 saved a couple of hundred dollars on the older model, and it shoots 10 times better than my 2004 Bear TRX. Smooth, quiet, with no hand shock, and is very accurate...

Just bought a lefthanded Mathews Z9. My last Mathews was a Q2XL and it worked great on a number of hunts. Switching to lefthanded bowshooting should be fun after about 30 years of righty.

Heck I just bought a Hoyt SuperSlam off ebay for like 50 bucks shipped.
65 to 80 pounds will work till I can afford a newer Mathews. Maybe I will buy one for my birthday in Oct.

I believe my Mathews Drenalin LD is a 2008, shoots like a dream and I don't see a reason for me to get a newer one. Same here!

Was an 08' Bowtech Commander
The girlfriend got a new Coach purse last week so I said it was about time for a new one. She said feel free, so last Saturday a 2011 Hoyt Carbon Element followed me home. Not cheap but I am beyond impressed. Smoothest and quietest bow I have ever shot and simply no vibration. 31" draw at 70lbs spitting a 428gr arrow at 319 fps works for me.

Got to shoot my buddies newer Ross bow this past weekend. It definitely had less vibration than mine, but otherwise it felt about the same as my 2002 Martin.

I have two 2009 models and two 2011 models, the two 09's are for sale as I can't justify owning four compound bows..............Hillbilly.

I could justify 4 but only have 3 compounds. 2010 Hoyt Vantage LTD (Hunting and target finger's bow), 2010 Hoyt Carbon Matrix (hunting release bow and 3D), 2010 Hoyt Contender Elite (Target release bow).

'06 Mathews black max II w/ turbo cam, its a fast accurate hard hittin' MOFO. My other bow IIRC is a very early 90's Oregon Deschutte's round wheel bow, not as fast as the newer superbows, but I can not bring myself to sell that Cadillac, its the quietest, smoothest, most accuratly forgiving bow I have ever shot.

2007 Hoyt Vulcan - prior to that I bought a pair of new bows nearly every other year.
Late 1970's Jennings Split T that I keep around just so I can see how it was when I first started. Weighs a ton, is loud, slow, and not particularly balanced...but I killed just as many deer as I did with much later versions of Martins, Bowtechs, Matthews and Hoyts. Nothing on it other than a flipper rest and a berger button a 2 pin plain sight.

I bought mine used years ago from my cousin. Its a 1998 Darton Yukon, I pulled it out of the attic this summer and it still shot great so I am taking it hunting next weekend. Maybe I will actually kill a deer with it this year.
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

If it's been in the attic thru the summer I'm suprised it hasn't let go already or about to.

Shot a 1994 PSE Fire-Flite from when I bought it new in '95 on closeout until just this year. Just purchased a 2011 Mathews eZ7. I would think this one will see use at least as long, if not longer, than my previous bow.

I am shooting a 2002 Hoyt Vortec with 80lb limbs(currently set to 75lb) I shoot heavy carbons and 125gr heads which has been very lethal on everything so far. I have killed deer, bear, elk, cougar, turkey, bison and various small game with it and it feels like an old glove.

I would say that arrow is clearly infront of that pigs hip and rear leg. At that angle and as deep as that arrow is I would say that is a well placed arrow.

I also am not primarily an archery hunter. I hunt with a bow to take advantage of the early seasons. For that reason, once I found something that works I haven't made much effort to up-grade.
I still shoot an early '80's version of the Onieda Screaming Eagle......and it still works as well as when i bought it.

I've been shooting an old Bear recurve in 55# since around 1974. I then got a Kodiak in 50# and a Browning Nomad Stalker I at 45#...both again, are recurves, and have been around a . I bought a compound from a friend for $75 about 23 years ago or so. It's a Quicksilver and adjust on the poundage. I have it set at 50#. None are fast or fancy, but all ahve taken many deer for me. I am into rifles and hand guns a lot more than bows, even though I do enjoy bow season. Since my old timey stuff still kills deer, bear, and the occasional hog for me, I don't see the need to buy any more bows. Now arrows? I buy a lot of arrows. I really prefer carbon to aluminum any more.

'95 Proline Riptide. Haven't shot it in a couple years, but looks like it may get some use this year. I've been drooling over a new Martin for years, but my old PL still shoots so nice and draws so smooth it's hard to spend the money on a new bow.

Nothing newer than 1997, nothing older than 1957. All wood/fiberglass, and they all work just fine. Parts aren't a problem. Lots of guys in my bow club shoot older compound bows. Dead is dead.

I'm shooting a 50# Browning Nomad recurve that I bought used years ago. Not sure when it was made. 1960's or 70's I'm guessing.
