I just got back from 4 days of smacking prairie dogs near Lubbock Texas. I never even got a 1K dog this trip. 807 was my furthest, but got several between 500 and 700. My wife got her first 500 yard prairie dog. 20 mph winds gusting to over 35 can really get you holding some windage shooting 65gr v maxs from a 6BR. A few times I was holding the target at the extreme edge of my scope to make hits. I usually carry along a gun with a long range shot in mind stoked with something with a little better BC. I did not have time to load anything else after loading the 2K rounds of 6BR. Next trip I will load more than 2K rounds. The wife took to PD snuffing like a duck to water. We would have run out of ammo if I had not been side lined a lot of the time by back pain. With the wife shooting full time and me shooting a total of 400 rounds we only came home with 200 rounds.

My wife and I were paired with Don Geraci and the other four members of our group were shooting in another area. Once again I got to see why Don was at one time considered to be one of the best shooters in the world. I have never seen anyone who can kill em like that old man. So long as he sees his first shot impact, the second shot results in a dead PD. It was amazing to spot for him. He seldom uses his range finder just fires off a spotting shot and follows up with a kill. After he gets the range on a mound everything around that mound is in dire trouble. His skills are uncanny.

I think the area we were hunting had seen some pressure. Most of our shots were at 300+ with very few 100-200 yard gimmes. It was still a great trip great food, great fun, with great friends.

She has plenty of rifles as she just takes mine. frown

Take your camera, I am still kicking myself for forgetting mine, good luck. Maybe the wind will give you a break. This was my third trip to this area and it was the worst wind I have seen. At least other than unpredictable gusts it was pretty steady.
