I knew if public land in FL was going to be open to crossbows during the Archery Season this year. It would help me to decide if I need a new bow or not.

I called and they are not going to be allowed on public land this year.

Good, crossbows should never be allowed during Archery Season except in the case of a handicapped hunter. Open a special season for the crossbow, but do not allow them during Archery Season; learn to shoot a bow. Should have a separate forum for crossbows at the "Fire" too

A bow is a bow. If it were up to me there wouldn't even be an archery season. Let's just have hunting season and let folks choose what they want to hunt with.

No, you are wrong. There are selbows, longbow, recurves, compounds, and crossbows. Lots of differences mechanically and philosophically. Crossbows do not belong in archery seasons, I feel the same way about the uber modern compounds. Sights and triggers belong on firearms, not bowhunting equipment. Off topic, but I also think that patched round balls, flintlock and caps belong in muzzleloader season. The rest in regular firearms season.

Anytime you make it easier, the participants become less prepared, and that equals more issues for everyone i.e., more wounded animals... Let's just have hunting season. It would give the rifle hunters a fair chance. In most states they can't keep the deer herd under control.

So making it harder ensures there will be fewer wounded animals?

At my age anyone that's had to work for a living can get a handicapped permit. I'm guessin' you girls wouldn't know anything about that.

You're right, I wouldn't know anything about whining that I'm getting old or lying to get a handicapped permit.
I understand it's acceptable in some circles though.

I really don't see how they make it easier. In my opinion, they make it harder than using a compound. I did get a litte disturbed last year when I saw a truck driving down the forest service roads like a traditional gun "road hunter," until I saw the crossbow, with bolt, resting on the passenger side window when it passed me. Anyway, I doubt that guy was successful, and I was perfectly safe 50 yards into the woods.
