My friend showed me an interesting rifle. He had taken a straight stocked 336 .30-30 and had the barrel shortened to 16".

He then re-did the stock with Tru-oil and highlighted the lettering on the barrel with gold laquer. He finished up with a ghost ring sight system.

This is one sharp looking rig and handles like a pistol.

I have found an older straight stock, and intend to make my own.

Forgive me if I don't share your enthusiasm for this project. Sounds like something you might see on the Home Shopping Network, if they were allowed to sell guns. They're not making those nice old straight stock 336 carbines anymore, either.

Walker, Good point. Problem solved as he wants to sell me his, and I could keep the other rifle(straight-stocked) as is.

Did not think I would like the gold lettering either, but it looks good and comes off with solvent when/if the novelty wears off.

If somebody really wanted to drive the traditionalists mad, the rifle could be sent off to Charlie Sisk for the purple stock and gold plated barreled action treatment

Charlie, I forgot. You live in TX... doing that to any lever gun down your way could be more dangerous than than a 30-06 loaded full of Bullseye!
Should I just go ahead and delete the post ?

Hmmmmm. Do ya think he's grown tired of the rifle that "handles like a pistol"?

Or, maybe he's just trying to raise cash to buy a pistol that handles like a rifle?
(I have one of those.)

Seriously, though .... pay me no mind. Some days I just wake up mean. Gettin' old and crotchety, I guess. It's your money, and you should buy what you like. But, please ..... promise you won't paint it purple.

Gator, tell'em all to leave ya alone. I like chopped off little lever guns as well. I have a 336 in 35 Rem i had chopped to 16.5" and it wears a ghost ring. It is a very handy little carbine. Nonneman offers the straight stock conversion of pistol grip stocks if you ever want that info for the future. I am fond of the little stubby leverguns but would probably forego the "bling bling" gold inlay....but that is just me. I dont have spinning hubs on my pickup truck either....lol

Never thought I would take a shine to inlay, but this looks nice.

However, when a different friend suggested I try it on my BAR Grade II, I was somewhat horrified.

And since I've seen about 10 other rifles I want since this whole thing started, my desire has cooled some.
