ive got a winchester mdl 70 fwt in 6mm rem that purely loves 75gr speer hp's. i have read alot of posts about the 95gr nosler balastic tip and how well it works. i have drawn a antalope tag for wyoming this year and would like to use this rifle. so far ive tried h4831 rel 15 and imr 4350 and not getting satisfactory groups with the 95 grainers. need some advice. i could use the 75's but have no "on game" experiance with them and dont want to bugger up an animal.

The 75 Speer is a very poor choice on Big Game. The Hornady 87 gr BTHP with WIN 760. This is the most accurate comp i have tried in my 6mm Rem, groups run just under 1/2 inch and it works well on Whitetail. Would be a killer on Antelope.

My go to load for the 6mm is 43.5grs of IMR-4350.I get around 3000fps and 1/2" groups with 100gr Hornady SP,Nosler Partitions and 105gr Speer SP.I've tried this load in other 6mm and they shot it quite well too.I've killed a lot of hogs and deer with this one.

dirtfarmer would you mind sharing the rel17 load? going to try and stick with the nosler b-tip as i bought 300 of them for a good price. ive seen the results of the 100 gr hornady and its a good preformer.

That 75 gr hollow point is a terrific choice for rock chucks... My son and I have splattered many a rock chuck with those Speer 75's. But I don't think of it as a deer bullet at all.

Does your rifle shoot any of the 90 - 105 gr hunting bullets well? Although I'm a big fan of the 95 gr Ballistic Tip, it's not the only decent 6mm hunting bullet. Nosler's 100 gr Partition can be very accurate - my son was just doing a bang up job practicing with that bullet at 300 yards a few days ago.

RL-22 loaded up to max and a 95 or 100 gr bullet has always produced darned good results from our little old 6mm Rem 700.

i have tried 100 gr sierra gk's and they were 1.5 inch with all powders tried. i have also shot 87 gr hornady flat bases in this rifle and they have shot well 3/4" or less

im beginning to think this rifle just likes the lighter pills. need to get a load settled so i can get off the bench and get ready to hunt

Odd, I've had excellent results with 100 grain Sierras with H4831SC but as you imply rifles seem to differ in their likes. Maybe adjust seating depth? For mine I seat not quite as long as the magazine allows and that leaves something like a 0.05" jump. Excellent results with the Barnes 85 grainers too but 4831 is too slow for that weight, really. Kills deer just fine though.

Some rifles just don't like boat tail bullets.I've got one that shoots flat bases extremely well, but sprays boat tails. Also,is your barrel free floated?Sometimes just the slightest bit of contact will make it a poor shooter and poor bedding will too.

If You wanna stretch that 6MM out a little, load up some 90 gn. Scirocco's and RL-22.

6mm and 100 gr Horn or Nosler melds nicely together. Want to go lighter, go TTSX.

My only 6mm is a .244 Rem. 40 XB with a 12 twist, not a gun for such a load. I have an HS Precision in .240 Wby on the way and have been reading up on 6mm's. I've used RL-17 in other guns and am impressed. The SST's have served me very well in other calibers, especially the 6.5-284. If I was going to develop a load for a 9 twist 6mm Rem, that's where I would start.

IMHO, the NBT's are a bit explosive for whitetails when moving at high velocity. The SST's seems to hold together better. Although NBT's are very accurate the SST's are right in there. In my 6.5-284, SST's slightly edged VLD's in accuracy, and are the most accurate bullets fired in that gun. At 6mm Rem. velocities, the SST's are a good blend of accuracy, toughness and expansion. RL-17 will probably give the highest velocities without pressure.

39.5grs H4895 works very well in my 6mm with 75 grainers, in fact, with 75 Sierras I shot the best group of my life, a .217' 5 shots. Hopefully that'll change once I start shooting those 105 AMAXs.

I've killed two Wyoming goats at 200 yards using the 85 grain TSX.

They were very accurate and dropped the goats in their tracks!

Hint: I got very small groups with these bullets seated 0.100 off the lands.

Nosler still makes an 85 grain Partition, it's a stubby, flat-based bullet that typically shoots well. Should be dandy on deer.

They just introduced a 90 grain Accubond as well, and offer a 90 grain Ballistic Tip - a hunting bullet, not a varmint bullet.

Have you tried the newer 80 gr. TTSX? In the .240 Wby, it will push those at 3,600 fps, vs. 3,500 fps for the 85 gr. TSX. And, with the polymer tip, the B.C. on the 80 gr. TTSX is really close to that of the 85 gr. TSX. I've read that the TTSX will open quicker and easier than the TSX due to the polymer tip. It may perform as well if not better than the 85 gr. TSX.

My thoughts are two. Just what kind of accuracy are you insisting on ? Second, how hot are you loading that thing ? Best accuracy often comes a little below the maximum published loads for a round. Actually too much velocity in those rounds isn't necessary and can lead to problems. Factory loads for the .243, for instance, run around 2800-2900 fps. for instance. I've seen factory .243 ammo kill Pronghorn and deer quite well. Alot better than many would think.
Anything at or better than 1.5 MOA will work fine. E

I'm going to work with the new .240 Wby until I find the most accurate load(s). The 80 TTSX, the 95 SST, the 85 InterBond, the 90 Scirocco and others will be put to the test. I'm looking for a tough bullet to withstand the velocity and I would like for them all to hit in one hole at a hundred...

Well, you gotta have a plan... I will report the progress.

Need to get the gun in my hands, first...

The 95gr ballistic tip is an awesome little bullet. I would keep playing with it until you get good results.
