Im riggin out a 338 WM as a no holds barred bruiser for rough country use in a scabbard on horse or mule, I ordered some supplies from Midway the other day and wanted to pass on a heads up. The Montana leather sling by Sinclair Manufacturing is the best darn leather sling Ive ever used, the Man that came up w/ this design is brilliant, I always worry about squeeking swivels or general movement of a traditional sling when raising the rifle to fire at game. Not a concern with this design, after Your on stand or in Your blind silently snug up the sling, no squeeks, rattles, or flappin' leather in the breeze. Same can be said for holstering Your rifle in a scabbard, simply snug up and sink it, Ive been messing w/ this sling last night and today and think its one of the simpliest most clever designs Ive ever seen, done called Midway yesterday afternoon and ordered 6 more, if any of You Men are considering a leather sling You gotta try one of these.

They are very good. Get some good leather dressing and soften them up just a bit. Long ago, Dad used a similar Whelen sling and added the pad pictured. Made carrying just a bit easier. I've got my grubby paws on it now. Talked to Pat (scenarshooter) at Montana sling about it......

TTT for the Montana sling @ MIDWAY USA, just a bump to let hunters know about a very functional sling.

I really like my Montana sling! It gets switched to different guns alot depending on my mood. All other slings fall short after this one.

I never had a clue either, I'll be picking one up soon and try it out.
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

I've got three of them now (all the 1" model). If you have old rifles (i.e., the pre-64 Winchester M70, M88, M100, etc.) with captive sling loops order the Montana sling with the Chicago Screws so you don't have to replace your factory metal sling loops with QD studs.

I never had a clue either, I'll be picking one up soon and try it out. Get a couple 3 or 4 raybass, You wont be sorry. Odessa, that sling looks perfect on that little 88, cool rifle to, think Im gonna slip a Montana on my 99F in 300 Sav. Im runnin' it w/ a Redfield 70 peep, so carry and function will be perfect, the little 99 is gonna be my main WT rifle this year for modern gun season. Gunner

I tried a Montana sling last year. Now I have two slings, a cartridge holder, and a belt.

Pardon my ignorance, but it is unclear to me if the Montana sling can be used as a shooting aid as can the military sling or the Whelen sling. (I do not mean as a "hasty sling" but with the loop around the upper arm and tight.)
Is it just a quickly adjustable carry strap, or is it a shooting aid and a carry strap (e.g. military sling)? I'd love to get rid of the metal hooks, etc. of the military sling for one that would also work just as well as a shooting aid.

Check out Pat's website. http://www.montanagunslings.com/gun_sling_video.phpI've been using one for 4 or 5 years, bought another one a couple years ago. They are simple/fast, easy to use, extremely well made and are handy as hell. And Pat's a cool dude, buy a couple.....grin
