So I have this old 336 in .30 wcf. Gun was made in 1948 and is in great shape and is quite the shooter too. I was thinking that I would like to find a really good/great Marlin gunsmith and have him go through it for a cleaning and tune-up. You know just get it ready for the next 60 years or so. Maybe even a little trigger work. I am hesitant though because "If it aint broke don't fix it right"! So who would you guys recommend on this? Called Turnbull BTW. We know they do great work but I cannot remember what they quoted me but it was high. Thanks

Most any gunsmith should be able to handle detail stripping a 336. I'd suggest that you do it yourself. All you need is a good set of screwdrivers.

Since your 336 is so old, its probably well broken in and only needs cleaning but here is how you "tune up" the action

Search on youtube for Marlin 336 disassembly....there are a couple of videos showing you exactly how to do it.

As it appears a complete breakdown is in order, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the hammer spring and hanger.
