Lately, my 1987 chevy 350 dually has been lurching when I start out in either first gear (granny gear) or 2nd gear.
I can get it going sometimes smoothly if i'm carefull, but it seems to be getting worse.
Trying to slip the clutch, and use more throttle doesn't seem to help, and only makes it worse trying to get across an intersection. Sometime if I get her in first gear while barely moving helps. But, I get a sense when hitting second gear that the problem is still there.
Any thoughts?

BW: Couple or htree things that can cause that: If it's a finger type pressure plate as opposed to a diaphragm one finger may be collapsing.
If your rear main seal has been leaking oil on the flywheel/clutch disc will do it
Extensive wear or alligatoring on the flywheel will cause it.
Prepare to spend some coin as that chattering/lurching can be hard on other drive line components too.

Yep, I need a new truck, but in the mean time it's getting better.
I hooked up the boat and trailer and after launching the boat it seems smoother.
I'm going to sell it fast!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Think I stick in the 'lemon lot' while I'm gone.

That could also be a broken motor mount. Or a combination of the two.

Sopuonds like a simple case of chatter, it happens as the clutch gets worn out and the flywheel gets burned.
I put a new clutch, disc, and turned the flywheel in my 84 Blazer, with parts from Schucks. It still chattered. I went to a high end auto mechanic service in the valley and they reccomended a "LUK clutch set" and turned the flywheel again. These guys told me that the LUK set is the one put in at the factory. I took the Schucks parts back and got my money back. The high end outfit only wanted about another fifteen bucks more than the Schucks parts. It did tick me off though that I had to drop the tranny and transfer case twice. It would have really made me mad if I had been paying someone else to do it.
We put another 100,000 on the blazer with this clutch and worked the heck out of it, probably harder than your dually because the Blazer had 2.72 gears in it. Then my son drove the Blazer to school for a couple of years.......with never a bit of clutch trouble.
Anyway a clutch set really isn't that expensive for these older rigs, and a good one will last for a long time.
People who choose to brew up their own storms bitch loudest about the rain.
