I'll ask this here as the rifle forum gets a lot more traffic than the horse/atv forum: what make of scabbard do you recommend for carrying your rifle on hay burners? Lined or unlined? Thanks.

I was told years ago to go with the unlined scabbard since the lining could soak up moisture, grit and weed seed. Don't know that to be true, but I bought unlined anyway.

I was told the same thing, inherited a unlined Lawrence for 94 winnies years ago, it works fine. The only thing that I can think of that may be problematic for some users is that they can burn the bluing off the barrels and levers with lots of use. I wouldn't store anything in them for any length of time either, tanning salts might rust up your rifles.

Both of my scabbards are unlined, but they go mostly on my Kawasaki KLR650 or various ATV's nowadays.

If you use scabbards, expect scabbard wear, just like holster wear.Just af act of life for us horse/mule riding hunters. Definitely no fleece liner. Perfect combination for rust, plus twigs, leaves, burrs ets adheres to that stuff like glue.
Any good quality like Hunter will do. Don't get a hood but do get a flap.Nasty weather, stick a garbage bag over the end.You will end up leaving the hood in camp.
Walker Pack Saddlery in Lost Tine Oregon carries good ones,as does Davis Tent.Almost any good pack outfit store carries decent ones

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

Been awhile since I shopped for a scabbard. The one I do have on hand now is Black Sheep brand. I see them for sale on EBay, Gunbroker and Craigslist occasionally.

Definately, would not buy one that is lined.

Ordered mine through Cabelas about 20 years ago, not sure if they still make the same model.

Tried to link the current Cabelas version but it won't work.
I'd get the 'deluxe' version.

That why GOD makes Remingtons.

No big deal to replace.

Wait, I was under the impression that God made Kimbers, considering that they are the best of all.....
