A chamber vacuum sealer is just that, a chamber that is completely pumped down, with your bag and contents, then the bag is sealed, then the chamber vented to atmoshpere.

They've got several of those units at the Ft Rich rec camp in Seward, they work incredibly well and fast. If they weren't so spendy i'd have one.

Thanks, 284.

A chamber vac removes the air from the chamber and bag thereby not "collapsing" the bag like a foodsaver does...after the air is removed the chamber/bag is filled with an inert gas like nitrogen or argon, then the bag/chamber is evacuated and the bag is sealed.

I don't use the foodsaver bags in my cheapo vacuum sealer and have had much better luck... do a google search for vacshack. That is who I use and its probably about $100 for 1000 quart sized bags but I am not certain. They regularly run 10% off... sure if you just asked you would get it.

I received my 260 the other day and have been playing around with it. We picked about 30lbs of blueberries and vac sealed them into our "smoothy portions". It works better than I imagined for soft items.

I'm glad I pulled the trigger.

Factory refurbed for under $1000 shipped..... http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/vacuum_packaging_machine_ary_vacmaster_food_vac_system.aspx

KK,
Yep went over about a week ago and they were out already. He did say they were the smaller unit and that's why they were on sale. My old one is still working, just wanted a spare. --- Mel

My Food Saver of 15 years still works well but it's on its last gasp of air. No pun intended. I've discovered that restaurant supply houses are a great place to find new and used commercial appliances such as a vacuum baggers.

I have had poor luck bagging. Since I retired last month I have been canning and love the results.

That said, it is time consuming.
