Here's my latest Savage I assembled a few months ago....

Savage single shot Target action (large shank)
Pac Nor 28" no taper tube 8 twist/3 groove
Choate Varminter stock
Aftermarket bolt knob
Millett TRS-1 4-16x50 30mm scope
Burris Signature rings using +10 & -10 inserts
Weighs just a tad over 18#
Been a real back burner project gun...
Using Lapua brass..Sierra 142 & 123 MKs along with 140 A max
and 140 Bergers...powders the usual Swede RE22..RE19..H4831
Longest p/dog kill has been out to 775 yds...weather cools down I'll be taking her back out to exceed that...
Yes I used the barrel nut to set it up along with FL sized Lapua brass...

The Millett scope was kinda on a dare...was waiting for a new Vortex PST 6-24 and it never showed up....actually took 18 months before I got one...but had since picked up the Millett to test out...its not a PST or 6500 Tact...but glass is clear...clicks do what you tell them to do...reaches to 1K yds...warranty by Bushnell....so far so good...its one big honkin' scope..the 6-24 PST landed on my 223 AI p/dogger and gets much more use than the 6.5x55....

Thanks for the info on the Millet. I had never run into anyone who had used one.

At the time of this action purchase...only a 223 bolt face was available....a quick & easy fix to change it out to a 308 face...fits the Lapua x55 brass just fine..which is a few thous' larger head size than domestic x55 brass..Savage also prvides a machined 'fat lug' with action..

That is a cool rig and you're shoot'n 'er right on! What a classic round, and sweet shootin' get up.

I like the finish on the barrel, too.

Thanx.... laugh

I have Pac Nor bead blast the barrel when finished with a nylon webbing material...a snake skin effect....
Also Pac Nor used their 'no throat' reamer for this project..
for me that means longer useful barrel life with the short throat...123 SMKs..130 NABs..142 SMK's & 140 Bergers are the planned bullets....I'll soon be running it over the Chrony..

Get rid of those fliers and you might have some decent groups. smile

Tempted to just run the one load and be done or are you going to play with other components? I had a .243 built and the load recommended by the smith punched similar groups, never bothered wasting components to try to improve on groups that were the best of my abilities.

Nice.

I've got a 7mm-08 Stevens that throws similar groups. Some people call them an ugly action, but with results like that, I think she's beautiful.
