I sold an item, and received a Money Gram money order. I've never cashed on of these before just because I've always received USPS MO's in the past. I noticed that where the name of the payee was written, someone else name had been written and then crossed out, and my name written overtop of it and the person that sent it initialed it. Being a Money Gram MO I took it to the nearest Money Gram branch, and they told me they can't cash it because of the name being crossed out and another one written there.

After contacting the seller, he asked that I try the post office. My question is, will the post office cash money orders from other companies? I guess I always assumed they would only cash their own USPS MO's, but I don't know that for sure, and I'm having trouble finding an answer on the USPS website. Anyone here have any experience with this?

Heck, most of the local post offices to me won't even cash a USPS money order with any reasonable amount on it.

Wouldn't think USPS would touch a money order from anybody else.

Take it to your bank. If they won't cash it, send her back. Sounds flaky to me.

If Moneygram won't cash their own M.O., don't expect someone else to cash it.

Call the P.O., but I'm fairly sure the answer will be no.

Nope, but since they are closed for the day, I can't call them.

Just in case you ever misplace a postal money order and then find it a year later, dont worry because it never expires. The only time I had trouble cashing one at the post office was early in the morning before they had any cash in the drawer
