Can the new 2465 BDL mountain stock barrel channel be opened up for a standard sporter barrel? I am looking for a stock that will fit a Rem 700 XCR long action, but is not as heavy as their standard Medalist 2960 stock. The Alaskan stocks would be great if they were not designed for a magnum or fluted barrel channel. I know they would work, but the gap they leave is not pretty. I don't know why they don't fill the void in their light stock line with a sporter barrel offering. Everything is either for a mountain or magnum barrel. I guess that's another reason to choose a McMillan. That XCR stainless would look great in a Mickey classic in olive or black.

Yes. And don't be so shallow, looks isn't everything.

The channel on the Alaskan is not that big. Fits a sporter barrel nicely. That being said, it is not that light compared to an Edge or a Bansner.
