Hornady 17 grain Vmax works for me.

Shoot it in a Cooper and a Ruger 77-17 with GREAT results in both.

I would like my CZ to like the 17 gr V-Max, but it likes the 20 gr bullets better. Your gun may make the decision for you... smirk

My Bolt action Marlin & my little Rossi Pump (winchester copy) both like the Hornady V-Max the best, but the Remigton & CCI loads will all shoot under 1" @ 100 yards with 5 shots from a sandbag. It's a great Rabbit, Prairie Dog, & Squirrel gun out to about 150 yards. I don't reccomend it for Coyotes, however, unless they are Really Close!!! I've had several run off after a solid hit at 100 yards. I'm sure they died, but doesn't do much good if your selling fur.
I still prefer my old Marlin .22 mag for calling coyotes. It puts them down right away! Also like using my M-4 Bushmaster hand-loaded with 45gr V-MaX...
The 17 HMR is a great little round, just got to know its limitations. BTW, my nephew killed a turkey & a roasting size piglett, about 20 lbs with it, but he was only about 60 yards away on both shots...

My CZ likes the 17 grain V-Max ammo (doesn't matter the brand) the best. I also like the destructivness of the V-Max bullet. My dad has a Marlin that shoots the V-max and TNT equally well.

Hornady 17 gr V-Max or the 20 gr XTP which is my favorite.

Yep but each brand is loaded to different specs- ie different powders with the same bullets etc..

I here ya on it all being made at CCI, but from about 20,000 rds plus of experience since the round came out thru a couple of Marlin heavy barrels, A Savage heavy barrel, an Annie sporter, a Ruger 77/17 and a Winchester low wall I built with a Lothar Walther barrel, I have seen over and over the Hornady stuff out shoot the other branded stuff, Must be Karma. Also I have had the CCI/ Remington and the CCI/Federal split cases that I have not seen with the Hornady. Must be bad lots of the same stuff. I only buy the Hornady now...Russ

I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of all the off the shelf brands--For hunting squirrels, I find I like the Full metal Jacket better for head shots as the other rounds are extremely destructive. With the right scope, you'll find yourself shooting for the eye, not just the head--lot of fun ahead for you--Bill
