Well, I leave this evening for a 4-day fishing trip to Northern Saskatchewan. I'm taking my wife's brother and my sister's husband with me this time. It's the first time for both of them to this area. In talking to the owner of the lodge where we park, the lake is up 6 FEET this year due to all the rain in the area. The lake is actually just a widening of the Churchill River system which drains much of northern Sask, so I guess it isn't that surprising that the water level fluctuates that much. It's likely going to change where the pike will be since the water is upto the trees on the banks now. Hopefully the walleye are still in the same area as they have been before. I know that there are a lot of fish and big fish in the lake, I just want to make sure that my Bro's-in-law catch a lot of big stuff. I will be sure to post pictures when I get back...

Well, we are back. The weather was not that great. It didn't rain, but it was overcast and windy the whole time. I think the high was about 13 C for the weekend. This is the first time I have been to this lake in the fall and the fish were definitely in different places than they are in spring. It was odd in that we caught a lot of little pike (less than 2 pounds) and virtually no mid-sized pike. My one BIL caught a 16.5 lb pike, which is his personal best. He was pretty excited. It actually broke the netting on my fish net, luckily it was inside the boat when it happened. Then the hook fell out of it's mouth. It's odd how many times I have had that happen with big pike. That pike had a 2 pound whitefish inside of him. I caught a 7 lb pike and my other BIL caught a 5 lb pike. Mine had a burbot inside his belly. That's the first time I have found one of those in a pike. I've found baby ducks, frogs, and other odd things, but burbot is a new one for me. The fishing was okay, but not spectacular. I don't think 15 minutes ever went by that one of us didn't have a fish on. I just wish that they had been a little bit bigger.

As far as walleye, we seemed to catch them only when we were fishing for pike. Usually while trolling spoons. Anytime we tried to fish only for them with jigs, we had no luck. We caught a few walleye with them all ranging from 2-3.5 pounds. I know that there are bigger ones in there, I just need to find them.

Anyway, that is about all for the weekend. We saw a number of bald eagles, a golden eagle, and a nice black bear, all from our campsite on a secluded island. I will try to post pictures when I get them developed. I don't have a digital so I have to do it the old fashioned way... sigh.

Sam, Welcome back. It sounds like the spring trip was a bit more productive, hope this was still a good (fun) trip though.
