I just picked up a alloy frame BKM that I bought on GB. There is a crack just above the slide stop notch. I have read conflicting views about this. Some say it is a relief cut and others say crack. It looks like a crack to me. There is very little metal from the top of the notch to the top of the frame and I'm inclined to not be concerned? Anyone know for sure?

Well, I just answered my own question. It is a relief cut. It looked like a crack until I cleaned it up and then it occurred to me to look at my PD which is it's big brother in .45. It has the same cut. Since I started this, here is what I am yapping about. Ken

Don't feel bad. I too paniced when I discovered that "crack" in my Star BM several years ago.

I suppose without that it would be a crack.

Would appreciate a range report after a session or two.

I have a star BM with the same relief cut. At first i freaked out when i saw it, then found out it was normal, and cut in by start as a relief cut. Also I have read that is a very common place on at least early 1911's to crack and is the reason star put it there.
Have had zero issues with the pistol.

Yeah, Star was ahead of Colt's on providing a flex point there. For older guns that have a crack there, just ignore it. Your gun will go at least another lifetime with a crack above the slide stop.
