Hello all,

Just wondering what tool or way is best for measuring Blackhorn 209?

Thanks,

ddj

Any good powder measure will do, but I use a powder scale & weigh all of my loads. 100 grs. by volume equals 70 grs. by weight.

Here's the results of my test of measuring BH209 by volume.

Whether or not weighing charges makes a difference in accuracy - I don't know.

Weighing is always best. You can get a DS-750 for $25 for the next few days-- good little unit.

By volume works for me.

We just shot some this weekend for first time and used 95 grains. I was surprised as usually tapping on the powder measure results in some settling. This seemed to be very consistent. Accuracy was also great using 300 grain Hornady FPB bullets.
I am sticking with just measuring volume while in the field.

I use a digital scale with BH. Works like a champ.

I take a powder measure and see what 5 average on the digital, then weigh them all. With my latest batch of BH209, 110grn vol weighs 84grn on my RCBS CM1500. Weighed several before the season and put them in glass vials.

i also weigh mine. i actually find it easier to weigh out charges at home and put them in plastic vials.

obviously, there is no question the amount of powder you will use is much more consistent from shot to shot.

maybe that matters to you, and maybe it doesn't, but it is certainly more consistent.
