Jed just sent me some feathers from his parrot for fly tying and I was wondering if anybody has any patterns for parrot feathers. I will post pictures of the flies I tie with the feathers if I can come up with some patterns!
Thanks in advance! Riley

How about tying me something flashy, along the lines of a streamer, for coho...with a feather or two off that squab...
I'll post a pic of the fish....<grin>

AK-
I've been tying since the mid 70's, and I don't believe I've ever seen a pattern calling for parrot feathers. I've had some around for years and still haven't used them, but they look like they would work in place of pheasant tail. Various parrot feathers have been used for over 100 years in full dress Atlantic salmon patterns. It depends what kind of parrot. Macaw? Certainly might be useful for a steelhead pattern if you're so inclined.

AK- Somebody there can use a camera too. Fly photos are tough! What's the camera and technique?

I will have MissTreated respond to that question. She took the pictures.

No tricks, just used my Canon Rebel with a 28-135 zoom, close up lens attached. Camera setting on macro, moose hide for back drop. Oh! Maybe that's the secret! Graylings Photographer

I haven't fished with them to see what workes best. I think they would work wet and dry well.
Riley
P.S. Wet is under water and dry floats on the surface, although dry does not alwise stay dry.

Nice lookin' flies Riley! I'm waiting w/bated breath those pictures from David in Ak... Seems I'd better get going on my flyfishin' knowledge... Thomas and I will be learning together.
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
