What's the best way to repair a hairline crack in the pistol grip of a 336? Injecting wood glue?

I use Super Glue and it works great. Don't get the gel type.

A picture of the crack would help. A pin might help a lot. Getting wood glue in a fine crack can be a problem.

I'd use a penetrating epoxy glue like Smith's or W.E.S.T. System.

And it's Super Glue which works great for this application.

Swampy,

You've been dodging the question on why you abandoned your Green Remington logo and your forever blind devotion to that label. Now, you're flying the Ruger flag, a brand you've bad mouthed for a long time. What happened? Did you finally have an epiphany?

To the question on the crack. If it was mine, I'd be checking to find out where the stress was, causing the crack. I'd hollow out under the tang or where ever the stress was and use Brownell's Acraglas Gel to repair. Just fixing the crack may not prevent future trouble without addressing the strain on the wood that started the crack.

IMHO,

Based on his Tagline, I'm guessing Swampman has recently aquired a highly accurate #3 that has become his current favorite rifle....that along with the junk built rifles that Remington slapping the Marlin logo on has perhaps converted him.

That's my take, too.

I just want to hear him admit it, but he's lying low right now. At least he's brand loyal to a fault. Just depends on who he brung to the dance, or who brung him... laugh

Ole Swampy knows no moderation. He's full bore, pedal to the metal, on what ever wave he may be riding at the time. And don't try to tell him otherwise. It's just funny to see him so in love with the very brand he badmouthed with such fervor for so long.

Makes one wonder what kinda weed he's growing down there in the bottoms.

DF

Edit for spelling.

As I've said several times. I like their single action revolvers and the Ruger #3. The M77s have to be taken on a case by case basis. They produced a very very long run of M77s with bad barrels. They are a pig in a poke.

Swampy,

Under that big black Ruger logo, why don't you put in parentheses, [Blackhawks, #3's, only. 77's (most, anyway) suck.]

That way, all this confusion could be lessened. The implication with the big logo, is you're now solidly behind Ruger like you once were with Remington.

A few years back, he was singing the praises of NEF single shots, and that for a couple hundred bucks you could shoot tiny groups all day long.

Meddle not with them that are given to change. wink

Just because you don't know how to reload or shoot doesn't mean that everyone else can't. I go to the range on a regular basis and wonder why so many have trouble shooting tiny groups. I can do it even with rifles that aren't known to be sub-MOA type rifles.

That reminds me of a Pogo comic strip from long ago. Pogo was addressing Albert, the gator. "Albert", said Pogo, "If brains was shoes, you'd be barefoot to the knees."

I love it when you speak of yourself!!!

When you finally admit that you are not the be all end all to the gun community then maybe you will be taken serious.
