I found a toy I was looking for and I need some play money.
It shot 110TTSX and 130TTSX under an inch as it arrived with the barrel full length bedded with pressure.
It would not shoot Partitions or factory WBY 150SP under an inch and I didnt like the amount of pressure on the barrel so I floated the barrel back to the straight shank and it started shooting any decent load I fed it an inch or so. Some loads go and some might go 1.125 but I like a rifle that shoots lots of loads an inch rather than one that only shoots one load/bullet well.
Just me I guess..

I bought it as a 300winnie with a brake so I had Ultra Light Arms do this:
*Rebarrel with a SS Douglas premium blank in 270WBY (std freebore) (26"-.615 at muzzle)
*Re-bedded
*painted and replaced recoil pad (13.4 LOP)
*Blued action, etc
*Replaced trigger with new Timney (2.5lbs)

DISCLOSURES:
Barrel received a few nicks in shipping when the bolt got up against it.
Factory paint isnt not that great. Doesnt take much to chip and there are a few chips along barrel channel.
You can see tops of some cloth in barrel channel from free floating.
I removed a small amount of material at the rear of the trigger guard to use a Shilen trigger. Unnoticeable when assembled.
If you like NULA can rebed the rifle. Mel works very reasonable. I wouldnt but at my current price you can afford to make changes.

The rifle is close to new for almost $1500 less than new.
Weighs 6.5lbs w/o scope.
PRICE is W/O scope.
$1800 plus actual shipping and insurance. $1750 FTF in Richland, WA.

Mel calls it a 3 but I'm with Gene, more like a 2.5. I very much like the balance. Just have a 300 WBY that is close to same weight.

Dave,
my ula had a #2 at 24 inches and was .600 at the muzzle and I would think yours is a #2 also unless Melvin started with a #3 and tapered it down towards the muzzle end to have a larger diameter chamber area

hmmm...

Please don't take this wrong. But what is it like shooting a Weatherby Magnum in any rifle that weighs in at about 8 lbs with scope and ammo? I realize that an individual has a "felt recoil" limit... So what is it like at the range shooting off the bench?

Anyone how has fired a 270 Weatherby or 7mm Weatherby in a rifle of 8 lbs is invited to comment. However... not the rest of you

My .270 WBY is built on a lightend 700 LH action, Bansner stock, and Hart # SS barrel. It is just slightly over 7lbs with a 4.5X14 Leupie. Recoil is sharp but not difficult to manage. I have a NULA .300 WSM that is under 7 lbs all up and its managable also.

My 7mm Wby ultralight will wake you up with a 140 SST or TSX doing 3410 fps. It comes in about 7-3/4 lbs, scoped. It hurts a lot less than my old 45-70 or 444, in fact I'd say not terribly unpleasant. Quite managable. My Accumark in same caliber is quite pleasant to shoot with same loads, but 2 lbs heavier. BTW - Both rifles shoot these loads under 1/2", the Accumark under 1/3". A properly designed stock will go miles toward reducing felt recoil. I'm going to say the .270 Wby in a well stocked rifle will not be unpleasant to shoot.
