I have a Weatherby Mark V, 257 Weatherby caliber that is apparently shot out. It is a friends and trying to get it back in shape for him. Never have done a barrel change but would like a good barrel to replace this one. The original is #1 taper, 24 " and 1-10 twist.

i would order a new barrel. you can specify rate of twist, length ect.
when the JAP weatherbys came out they had 24" tubes and rate of twist was really for heavier bullets that what is needed for whitetail
But then again the idea that someone would use a 257 mag on deer wasnt pervasive. the idea was a 257Weatherby was more for a light recoiling CPX3 than a long range CPX-2.
you can make the rifle fit your needs with a new barrel.

Thanks ringworm, a good idea. My buddy doesn't have too much into it and Weatherby told him for $1000 they can rebarrel and restock, which it needs both. He really likes the bling of the Weatherby's

I had the same problem. Sent mine to factory and they installed a 26" tube for about $400. Ordered a mcmillan classic stock with a 12 1/2 pull length for my wife. She is deadly with that gun. Shot a zebra, nyala and impala with it. All one shot drt's!If your buddy decides not to mess with it I might be interested if the price is right.
Good luck.

You might look on Numrich Arms. I bought a factory 26" 257 WM bbl from them a few months ago for $100. Barrel was in excellent condition and shoots good. Just my .02.

Well I finally got the 257 back in shape. I found a barrel here and a new stock on ebay. A friend had the equipment to change the barrel and a reamer to rechamber. I bedded the action and free floated the barrel. I even found a Weatherby scope to put on it, as the owner is a Weatherby fan. I shot it yesterday, only at 50 yards but just to see if I could keep it minute of paper plate, as the other barrel couldn't. To say the least I am quite happy. There are 3 shots in the target. The photo of the gun shows the old and new stock. I haven't even told my buddy, the owner, about the project yet but will present it to him next weekend!!

I might. I will have to present it first to my buddy. I am sure he won't want it. It was full glass bedded, probably the previous owner thought it would fix it!!

I will let you know Akpilot.

I told him I wanted to show him something and got him up to my mancave. I pulled the Weatherby out of the safe and he said "that is a Weatherby"! He thought I had finally broke down and bought myself a good gun. I told him it wasn't mine, it was his. Well he almost peed on himself. He actually almost forgot about it. I had to show him the old stock. As I told him the story of finding the barrel and the stock and then how I assisted a friend with the barrel swap, he was more excited. He then said it wasn't his anymore, it was mine. I almost got choked up!! Such a great friend, too bad he is 85. He wants to go back to Africa but doesn't really want to shoot anymore, said he has all he wants, although he struck out the last two times he went after leopard. I probably should go with him to be his gun bearer....
