uhhhh....you might want to show your SADDLE(so we dont get off topic wink wink )with a pic or your 38WCF and 1902 Marlin (so we get a chance to see the firearm....this IS, of course, a hunting forum as well!!!!) wink grin grin

Scabbards also make nice backdrops in pictures smile

I'd be embarassed to show my beat up old scabbard along with some of the fine ones shown here. Already showed my saddle I believe, but here is my Marlin, 38-40.

Actually, I prefer guns, saddles and leather gear that has stories to tell over new shiny looking gear. Guess that is why I prefer leather to biothane, nylon, cordura....

Don't be shy!!!!

OK, here is my saddle. This is one made by a local that I have ridden for 20+ years.

pic. took a while to come up and did not notice it in last reply. Great looking lever action, is that an octogan barrel???

I am partial to the old leverguns.

I like your low cantle. I've always wanted a wade, so thats what I'm getting next. But I don't want the high cantle. Seems the wade, slick forks all have higher cantle's and pencil rolls.

I'll probally go custom made next time anyway.

I have trouble with high cantles. I have a 4" on my other saddle and if the mule strardles/jumps,it snaps my back pretty good and I'm done for the day. It's the pits when you are 5-6 miles from camp.
I'd rather have the Bowman type swells.Just a personal preference.

Robster.Yep that is a octagon barrel. I found that gun in a guys closet when he was selling off all his collection. He wanted a $100 for it,but it needed a barrel, ejector, and stock.

I made the stock myself w/fore end , bought an ejector from Wiesners, and John Taylor up in Washington State relined it for me. Almost like new now except some one had sanded most of the bluing off along with markings. So I polished it a little and used some cold blue on it to give it some color.

We got a little shy of 2 ft of snow yesterday so I'm going for a sleigh ride in a bit.

SS. you wouldn't like the cantle on my saddle. 5.5 inches. Gets to be a pain if you have something fastened to your belt or a small of the back holstered hand gun.

I have a higher cantle, but carry my handgun strong side so does not interfere with cantle. I like the higher cantle, but I know you have said you have had back troubles SS so I can see why you do not like a higher one. Sounds like a great deal on that Marlin. you did a great job on the stock and fore end. Looks great!!! Enjoy the snow. We normally get 120" a year but this year we are barely at 25". Might turn out to be the winter that never was.

Kinda hard to see, but this is my favoritest saddle. Shown here modeled by the late Sonny Dee, as Ruby The Wonder Horse was lame for this trip. Sadly, it doesn't fit our current crop of equines.

Sonny Dee Bar was a great grandfather.

Wow! what a different looking animal!

Our Sonny had a puppy-like disposition. Pretty spoiled when we got him. He ended up being a pretty good boy.

This one takes very good care of inexperienced riders. Never makes a bad move.
