I just found an H&R in 357 Max...super clean and original chambering from factory...not a new barrel or rebore...problem is that I cant find any ammo. Anyone have any experience with this caliber and any leads on source of ammo? Thanks

Fantastic caliber/load for rifles, an earsplitter in handguns.
You are best served by handloading for it. Factory ammo is hard to come by, but fortunately it is pretty easy to stock up on some brass.

have a few guns in .357max...pretty good chambering, with bullet weights in the 180gr or so class, will give about 90% of the speeds of the .35rem, but with much less powder/recoil. kind of scarce in the handi rifles. if you handload, i've had pretty good luck with 4227, and lil gun, with most bullet weights. bit of load data: http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=152

I once had a Contender w/357 max barrel. Only place I could find ammo was at gun shows. When I found it I'd buy as much as possible. I didn't reload back then but now (if I still had it) that would be the best option.

I've got a Savage 24V combo gun in .357 Max/20ga. I load a Hornady 180 gr XTP to a little over 2000 fps. Neat little cartridge in rifle length barrels. Graf sells what I assume is basically custom ammo under the Precision Cartridge banner with a 180 gr JHP for $39.99 a box but they are currently out of stock.
