Some of you must have some favorites from "The Bard of the Yukon".

I have clinched and closed with the naked North,

I have learned to defy and defend.

shoulder to shoulder we have fought it out.

but, the wild must win in the end.

I thought perhaps The Cremation of Sam Mcgee might come up at some point. Not Service's only good poem by any means. Bessie's Boil was "new" to me. Great! Thanks, MissTreated!

glad y'all are enjoying it. Truly my favorite. I have The Cremation of Sam McGee and The Shooting of Dan McGrew in picture book form, illustrated by Tom Harrison. Great books, I'll most likely keep forever. I love the poetry involved in the books and can only imagine how Bessie's Boil would be illustrated! grin

Our only time in AK, we spent an evening at Ester Gold Camp, near Fairbanks. The Malamute Saloon had a reading of "Dan McGrew".

Hit my head on a wooden beam in that saloon many years ago.
Think Robert W. was there that night....................

"My Madonna" has a unique twist which fits Alaska so well.

"Don't let in the draft, cause its the first time I've been warm since I left Tennessee."

Great line, and only someone from Dixie would understand.

I can appreciate the precision of digital thermometers 'cause they let us see plus readings one day. It got up to 0.1 F for three hours. smile

Indeed! I know it's a case of "a man with no shoes, crying to a man with no feet," but nothing above zero here for a coup'la days. It's wearing thin. I don't know how you folks who have to deal with real cold do it...
