I was looking at the HSM trophy gold ammo, 168 grain loaded with Berger VLD hunting bullets for my 300 RUM. The BC is 0.473 with Muzzle Energy at 4605 and Muzzle velocity at 3513, my question is would this be a good factory bullet for this rifle, I dont plan on reloading and I'am looking at shots anywhere from 100 yards out to 800 yards and beyond, looking on jbm ballistics it's pretty impressive, but I would like some real reviews from people that have used these bullets... Thanks

I have not had good luck with HSM in anything I have tried it in. 270 win, 243, and 264 win mag. all were berger bullets loaded in them. typically bergers shoot great. YMMV

wouldn't waste my time with anything under 200 gr's. it would be worth your while to get someone to load you some 200 gr accubonds over 95 gr retumbo = 3200 fps in most guns, and usually supper accurate.

I've had good luck with Remington's 150 and 180 grain Scirocco II's.

I would second the recomendation to shoot a heavy bullet in the 300 RUM. The 200 gr AB has shot really well for me.

I would be curious what the 210 gr Berger with a .631 BC would do as well.

I would want at least the 185gr VLD in the 300 RUM and the 210gr is great if you have a brake.

The Remington 180gr Scirocco is always a good load if someone makes you shoot a 300 RUM. grin

I have had some great success with that bullet, but I will admit I use my 300 RUM less these days...

The 300 RUM is the perfect choice to make my 7 mag feel like a 243 smile

I make myself shoot a .300 RUM using 200 grain Accubond handloads. Nosler loads them as factory ammo. mtmuley

I shot and chronographed some remington 180 grain nosler partition loads and was very impressed. They clocked 3340 fps and shot .5 moa at 400 yards. Don't know if this helps but thought I would throw it in here for you to look at. A buddy used my rifle with these loads as I spotted and he dropped an elk right at 700 yards with them one shot and down. We popped 2 out of 3 12 oz pop cans at 500 yards with these and every gallon jug we shot at. So they are accurate.
