Marty, (years past),I have liked and used IMR4831,and RL22;my vels have been in 3050-3080 range with 180's and about 3150 with the 165. The cartridge is flexible;will digest anything along the range of IMR4350,H4831,R22,etc and stuff in that medium slow burn rate. Funny thing is my load with RL22 and 165's was exactly the same for both the 300H&H,and the 300WSM(!)with vels about the same as well. Tony ,I think I found that NIB 375 on Guns International....a Special Order custom shop item, if it's the same one.

BobinNH: I own both and there are NOT many "things" on this earth better than them! One of my all-time favorite "guns" is my pre-war Model 70 Bull Gun - the factory 28" extra heavy barrel is simply marked "300 MAGNUM". The fit, finish and trigger are just sublimely wonderful! Watch out for low-flying politicians, for the next few days, there in NH. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy P.S.: Your tag line about "shutting up, loading a Nosler Partition and going Hunting" is RIGHT ON!

VG: It is pretty wild back here in New England right now!We are all ducking those low flyers! A pal here has a bull gun 300H&H....they were wonderful old guns! Charlie Sisk, the custom gun maker spoke those words of wisdom about the Partition....in typical Texas fashion, he minced few words! The statement was so intelligent and to the point, I thought I should share it.....

What about a Pre-64 Supergrade 458 Win Mag? It has been to Africa and killed just about everything possible. Never had a scope on it either.

I have a pic(a bad one) somewhere. Still tryin to find it. Ill have to take some more of it. The rifle was my Great PawPaw's that he bought to to elephant huntin in Africa. He ended up not being able to go so he let his buddy take it with him once or twice. Supposedly it was used to kill just about everything. My PawPaw has it now and I beg him every chance I get to have the rifle passed down to me.

Bout to find out about the 300 H&H.
What is everyone's vote for best scope for that rifle?
I'm thinking one of these: VX2 3-9x40 VX3 2.5-8 or 3.5-10 FXII 6x36 FX3 6x42

Of those you have listed I've been partial to any of the three (or their Vari-X predecessor's) on my .270 WIN through .338 WIN MAG M70's over the years.

I have a 96% original .300 H&H and a 90% original .375H&H in matching Borden-Rimrock stocks, Brockman peep-Marbles Sourdough sights and Talley rings. I do like these and have had other P-64 original .300s and .375s, but, they are a bit heavy for BC mountain hunting at agr 65 and I gotta say, my favourite Mod. 70s are my original Alaskans in .338WM, in various highend synthetic stocks, these are "better". I also like the P-64 Fwts in .270Win. and have three, two originals in good synthetics and a superb "home made" one in a modded Micky MKX style Edge on a super smooth 1946 action and Classic STS Fwt barrel....puts three into .7 at 100M consistently and is so nicely balanced. Soooooooo, yup, there IS something "better"....give me h*ll, BOBNH, gotta keep we old geezers in line, eh!

I've been turning over rocks to find a 300 H&H lately. I visited a HUGE gun shop in Houston this weekend and after wandering for a moment, I asked the guy behind the counter where his pre 64 model 70's were at. He said he only had one. Low and behold, it's a 300.... Weatherby
