Just bought a new Winchester Model 70 in .270 to complement my Tikka T3 Lite Stainless .308 that has been my "everyday" gun for the last several years. Love my Tikka but the beauty of the wood stock and nostalgia of having a M70 in a classic clambering like .270 won out.
I settled on a Leupy VX3 3.5-10x40mm to top it off with but need help picking the best mounts/rings. What do you guys like?

Is this a trick question? Talley LW are standard issue on my Winchesters. Supposedly there are other Talley style brands out there. I think Williams was determined to be the brand on the Minox catalog.

I have S&Ks on my Fwt. '06, and see no reason to change. My EW .300 WSM will get them, and probably my .300 RUM Sporter.
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

Go with the dual dovetails. The talley lightweights are good servicable rings but they're ugly and look out of place on a nice wood/blue rifle. I'd use them on a stainless or lightweight rifle, but not on something where I cared about it looking good.

That's exactly what I just put on my new M70 Super Grade 30-06...they look really good with my matte Leupold FX3 6x42

Exactamente'..... Talley lightweights are awesome and look great on all-weather/synthetic stocked rifles, but look like ass on nice wood stocked rifles.

I think Williams was determined to be the brand on the Minox catalog. I wouldn't call the Williams a Talley style as much as the Talley's are a Williams style as I used a pair of Williams at least 20 years ago. I never had any problems with them but I never cared for the looks of them. As for which rings and bases I like the Talley standard rings and bases, or dual dovetail mounts.

I've seen more well-shot game lost with TSXs than any other premium bullet.

There may be rings and bases that look a little more refined or cultured, but I don't think any are more lightweight or functional than the Talley LWs. I like'm.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

My first choice is Talley lightweights and second is steel Weaver-style basis with Z rings, which isn't much heavier than Talleys. Not a windage adjustable or dual dovetail fan at all.

I have black matte duel Leupold dovetails om my '98 era SS/wood stocked 300WM FWT. They look nice. I've never seen S&K in the flesh but they look nice in the pics I've seen. I have Conetrols on two of my pre 64 FWT's and they are my favorite. I also have grown fond of the looks of steel Talley rings and bases.

That's looking good and I like that rifle. Although I would turn the front ring around...

That's also a great choice as well. I run the DD's on a blued/wood FN made in SC model 70 and they look great and work great. Although I like the leupold dd's I still think I'd go talley's if I had to do it all over again......

Really liking your Featherweight Edge combo. Ditto on that as well. His rifle really looks great. Still kicking myself for not buying that stock
