Looking for advice on a scope purchase. I am looking for a scope with a Ballistic reticle. I have it narrowed down to the Zeiss Rapid Z 600 or the Swarovski BRX. Would like to hear from users of these two reticles on how they like or dislike them.

Rapid Z is nice b/c it is numbered and they have the online calculator. Easier to keep up with the lines. More cluttered than the BRX/BRH though. Zeiss is a little tricky to see in low light beyond the main crosshair but if you have it set at 200yds then that is not much of a problem.

The BRX reticle is waaayyy to thin for hunting use in my opinion. I could not see mine during low light at all. I sold it and bought one with the BRH reticle. Much better.

The Z3/Z5 scope with BRH is probably a little brighter and lighter than the Conquests with the Rapid Z Reticles but the conquest is probably a little tougher scope.

Ebby,
I have two Z-5's with Turrets from the Outdoorsman for the specific caliber. I shot a 4-14x44 Rapid Z 800 this weekend and liked it. The big question is turrets or BRH or Rapid Z reticle for my next purchase. I figured there is less that can go wrong with the reticle compared to turrets.

I've got the 4.5-14 Z800 and a 3-9x40 Z600. I've got a BRH and various other Ballistic reticles. I've got 2 Leupy CDS scopes and 2 Kahles with Multizero. I've also got a Vortex Viper HS as well. I just bought a Zeiss with Target turret and plan on getting the Kenton turret for it. I personally think that the ballistic reticles are nice and certainly quick but not quite as precise as the turret options.

If shooting in low light, the ballistic reticles are a little harder to see for longer shots. With a turret if you can see the crosshair, just dial it in and shoot. If you are using a calibrated turret with a zero stop, it's very easy to do and not get confused and just as quick in my opinion.

The Rapid Z is my favorite of the ballistic reticles out there. I'm slowly getting rid of my scopes that don't have one or the other option.

A buddy has the Z5 scope with outdoorsman turret. I haven't played with it at all though. How do you like those? Let me know if you want to send one down the road.

Ebby,
I like them I have two one mounted on a 257 Weatherby and one mounted on a 270 Weatherby. They work great and the Outdoorsman was running a special that if purchased the scope from them the turret was free. Both are 3.5-18x44 Z5's. The only thing I would like to see is a little heavier cross hair like the conquest has. Other than that no compliants. I just purchased a used Bansner Ultimate Ovis from a guy in Calif. and was starting to think about a scope for it.I have a Zeiss 4-14x44 with the Kenton replacement turret on a 7mm Wsm and it works equally as well as the Swarovski but it doesnt have the zero stop which was my mistake when I ordered it. I may use this scope on the new purchase and just get the right turret.

Just read where Swarovski is now offering a ballistic turett for your caliber. It looks just like the Outdoorsman's turett.
