Hi Guys I just wanted to show you an amazing piece of gunsmithing I discovered yesterday as I was at the gunsmith's lair to check the work in progress on my no 1. In the second hand section was a Britte's Superbritte, a O&U shotgun with a SxS style break action from Britte gunsmithing (Liege- Belgium). I found pictures and infos on the web thanks to the littlegun.be website. http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge/artisans%20identifies%20b/a%20britte%20fr.htmThere were only 250 pieces produced. Well it's not the cheap shotgun, the one I saw yesterday is priced 6500 euros (about 9000 USD)

I don't know, the only one I saw had a right side break opening and they made only 250 guns of that kind. According to the little amount of produced guns, it is possible they were only working upon order and that some customers ordered left opening guns.

Don't think they made left handed models, one of my friend bought one of this shotgun some years ago at a bargain price. Tha owner thought it was a junk... Dom

Looks good.
I have to ask myselfe "why not" again.
Cant see any real disadvantages making a shotgun that way.

I saw one of them in Las Vegas about 10 years ago. Seemed to have great dynamics and a $6,000 price tag.

I saw one of them in Las Vegas about 10 years ago. Seemed to have great dynamics and a $6,000 price tag. $6,000 seems like a deal; take a peek at this offering... Britte 12 Gauge Superbritte Patent O/U Shotgun. This is a Britte original, patent side lever side opening shotgun. The action is very slim, graceful and shallow with border engraving and all blue remaining, tight on face, double triggers, top safety. The barrels are 28" with clean bores that measure: 725/.725 and chokes Mod/ Imp Mod, 2 1/2" chamber. The stock is a straight hand/ splinter with strong chequering and finish, 14 1/4" lop, 2" dah, 1 1/2" dac, 6lbs 13oz. These guns have very good balance allow your forward hand to have a closer relation to the barrel than any other O/U shotgun. The side open action is very easy to function and re-load. 051281 FLOOR $18500.00 Category: Shotguns / Over And Under / Continental $18,500.00 http://www.willoughbymccabe.com/d.php?gid=1305

While I think they're kind of cool, I also think they are the classic "solution in search of a problem." I have to ask myself what possible advantage they would have over a conventional SXS or O/U.

Here is an old German gunsmith that built sidehinged over-under shotguns in the '30's-50's. I am a friend of the old Gent's grandson and after posting information on my web site we have had 2 shotguns surface. Some pictures of the found gun's are big. Nashwauk.net

Receiver area looks very chunky. Seems to have picked up the worst aspects of each design, and then multiplied them by two.
