You Ford guys, or anyone?
Picked up a 1995 1/2 ton 4.9 (300) this past fall for my step-dad, so he's not out in the field banging up is 1 ton.
Anyways, previous owner (1 owner) had kept meticulous records on what has/hasn't been done. Just about everything has been through, minus the fuel pumps.
Truck on occasion will NOT start. I could swear I can hear the fuel pump going and correct me if I'm wrong but both tanks (dual tank) have pumps in them?
You can literally sometimes walk out and try it ten minutes later and it's fine for days or weeks. And than the same thing, go out NOTHING. Try again later on and it pops right off.
Any ideas? I'm thinking if it was the fuel pump that switching tanks would work, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm still driving that same truck, 95 1/2 4x4 300 6cyl. I'd bet that its the PIP sensor on the bottom of the distributor. I went thru the same issues. Removed and replaced the sensor on the bottom of the distributor and everything's been fine since. It's called a Hall effect sensor and when they start going bad you get no fire to the plugs. Here's a pic of one. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Distributor-Pickup-Assembly-BWD_5240786-P_200_R%7CGRPTUNEAMS___# You can pick up a cheap OBD 1 scanner off Amazon that will help pin point what's wrong. http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3145-Ford-Digital-Reader/dp/B000EW0KHW

Distributor/plug/wire issues? Something easy to check anyway.

Try cycling the key a few times before you try to start it. On my dakota, it has a check valve out. The fuel pump runs for a bit when you turn the key on, but if the check valve is out, it isn't enough to pressurize the fuel system. If I cycle the key 5 or 6 times, it pops right off. The check valve is part of a $250 fuel module that sits inside the gas tank.
If you love someone set them free If they come back no one else liked them Set them free again

I've done the cycling key thing, my hunting truck ('87 Ranger) check valve is bad and I need to cycle it once or twice usually.
Might just replace that one piece mentioned and the cap this weekend?
