Sounds like an OV10 to me. Picture a C-23 Sherpa but much rounder looking, without a wing strut/support, with a blunt nose and not as long in the fuselage.

No it was very short nose to tail. It was parked on the tarmac across from a group of F-18 in from Miramar and its may a tad longer then they were.
The wing roots were at the top of the fuselage, the belly was low to the ground

I think that was just a coincidence. Its a former AFB that is now a commercial airport and a pitstop for military. We often see harriers from Yuma, U.S.A.F. Globemasters, NASA onwned aircraft. In fact that day there was a NASA T-38 Talon there too.
