For years, I've been "fixin' to" raise some of my own herbs and spices in the house in part for what they'll add to the air. The New Mexico town of Hatch is supposed to be the "chile capital of the world," so I'm thinking of going down there one day soon, to get some chile plants for the house here in Quemado.

Since any green on my thumb is there because that digit is brass, I'll need every tip and recommendation that I can get.

What's yours?

Ken,
Anytime I've been unsuccessful in killing a plant, I've used Miracle Grow--------the mix it in water stuff for outside plants, and food sticks for houseplants. I killed many an innocent plant prior to figuring this out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks!

Miracle Gro is one of the products that I've been hoping would help my chiles survive my brass thumb. Another is ____'s plant spikes (haven't seen the TV commercials recently enough to remember the name it ain't easy bein' senile).

One of my lady loves used to be a co-owner of a landscape-and-garden business. She's been traveling a lot lately, or I'd've asked for her advice already. As soon as she's home again . . .

I can't raise good chiles here because it is too wet. The "dryer" you can raise chile the better it is for flavor and heat content. Can't starve them to death of course but don't water more than you have to. Just a tip that I know.

Ken, I think those plant spikes are called Job's or Jobes or something like that. Used to see them advertised all the time but come to think of it I've not seen them in a while either.

Thanks, Boggy!

"Jobe's" dings my dong or, in more-stately terms, "bears witness to my soul." IOW, I think that "Jobe's" is the name that's been eluding the grasp of my memory.

Years ago, I heard a guy "up Nawth" explain how he raised cacti indoors he checked the weather reports, and when rain fell in Phoenix, he watered 'em.
