Nice ! How does the other one shoot ?
I have 2 .280's : a M70 FWT for Whitetails w/150's, and a 700KS ( 24") for Mulies w/140's
I'm thinking about running the KS out to an AI, but which one? SAAMI -.014 makes a certain kind of sense, but I have the old "standard" FL RCBS dies and no need for Nosler AI Brass.

Guys I'd put money on this:
IF you gave 10 hunters, rifles with the cartridge designation covered so it's unreadable and X no. were 270s and X no. were 280s NEITHER the hunters nor the game could tell the difference.
Both rounds work so well and are so close together there isn't enough diff to distinguish them.
That just sounds icky and somehow wrong.
Broncos are officially the worst team in the nation this year.

The 270 is identical to the 280 The 6.5mm-06 equal the 270 The 25-06 equal the 6.5mm-06 The 6mm equal the 25/06 The 223 equal the 6 mm The 22 long rifle equal 223 Pellot gun BB gun Rock
At what point in this equation did it become apparent that less is indeed less!

Had one for years. It's the only rifle I ever had built for me. Started life as a LH 700 barreled action in 270 Win. and got a 24" Shilen barrel, Brown Precision Kevlar stock bedded to the action and a 3X9 Leupold compact on top. Funny thing is any of my other stock Remingtons will out-shoot it. Not that it's bad, just a 1.5 MOA gun with the loads I've tried. I've toyed with the idea for years of turning it into an AI but haven't convinced myself it's worth it. With a 160 Nosler Part. it's a very effective rifle.
Hey, maybe the 280 is really what the 06' and the 270 should have been?? 270

"Nothing disturbs 270 believers more than a little interest in the 280."
One of the nicer points about having a .280 or three, is that it's so much easier to justify some of the other esoteric cartridges like the .338'06 or a 6.5'06. Or, the other cats ( .280 based of course) on those bores. Just because ...
With a 24" .270 and a 22" .30'06 you're pretty well done. Maybe a .25'06 or a .35 Whelen to complement the core.
All good fun !

Haviland did a write-up on liking the 41 Mag, so go figure...
He's said the 222 has been dead every time he mentions it, but I keep enjoying the ones I have for some strange reason.

I've had a 280 since 1980. Excellent cartridge.

And how long has the German 7x64 been around ? Since 1917, and still going strong everywhere but North America...

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.
