This has probably been asked before but I did a search and could not find anything specific.

Colorado requires: no scope, fiberoptics ok, loose powder (no pellets), conicals (ie no sabots but powerbelts are ok), projectile length must not exceed 2x diameter.

So what do you recommend in a modern muzzleloader?

That being said, I'm on the same quest for something that has a faster twist and will shoot a little flatter than my sidelocks, to use in Idaho which has similar requirements.

I understand there are "snail breech" sidelocks which will work, Whitworth is one.

Haven't come up with the "perfect" inline yet, will keep looking and following this thread with interest.

I think they got rid of the projectile length limitation. Son bought a nib t/c X7 that we really like. And I have a 54 cal Hawken that shoots roundballs very well. All my muzzleloader bulls have come at less than 100 yards so I don't do too many mental gymnastics over it any more.

I'd suggest a nice T/C Renegade running maxiballs though. You could always drop in a Green Mountain 28 twist which is what I did. Shoots great.

CVA without a doubt. They will shoot full bore projectiles perfectly.

TC tells their customers to not bother with full bore projectiles, thats how much confidence they have in them. Now don't get me wrong, im sure there are TC's out there that will fire conicals, but the risk is to great when you KNOW you HAVE TO use full bore conicals.

The top 2 CVA's I would recommend is the Accura V1, Accura V2 or the non thumb hole Optima .50cals. If your eye sight is pretty decent you can still take those 150+ yard shots with confidence.

This is my 5 shot group @ 100 yards with a $225 CVA Optima, 100gr Blackhorn209, CCI 209 Magnum primers, 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite.

I like my T/C Triumph, it shoots conicals fine, particularly Powerbelts. So does my Encore .50, but the Triumph is a good bit lighter, better for toting in the mountains.
