Here's a few of mine.

Ferry Landing in Iowa, about 5 miles on gravel roads from the nearest Iowa town. Good place to fish, relax, watch the river rise...
Ferry landing Maps Google

Sagecreek Campground, Badlands National Park.
Off the beaten path compared to their main campground, bring your own water, gas stoves only.

My all-time favorite is Echo Park in Dinosaur National Monument. It is 13 miles of gravel/dirt road plus 25 miles of paved from the nearest main road. The campground is surrounded by 500-1000 feet high amphitheater of sandstone cliffs. I last camped there in October, 2010, had the place to myself for 3 days. No water or fees in the off-season. Saw some monster mulies and bighorn, too!

Here is a photo taken near the campround, the large rock is called Steamboat Rock. That section of it is about the same height as Devils Tower!

Some of the places that were my favorite camp grounds weren't really campgrounds at all. They were gravel pits, logging landings or Meadows were we would set up Elk Camp out in the West End of the Olympic National Forest or in the Red Zone near Mount St Helens in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

It is for Iowa. In some of the east coast states, it might be difficult to find something even that far from a town or paved highway.
Obviously from some the responses here, people define remote differently. smile

I was going to guess somewhere near the Tetons until I quoted you, and Upper Green River Lakes came up in the image link. I have been kind of close to that area, wish I had stopped!

For years we liked this place. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mthood/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=52888&actid=29

But for the last fifteen years we were in Oregon we had a place neat Madras we loved that was on private property.
