Pentax 2.5X LS Fixed power Peep Duplex Shotgun scope on my Marlin Texan 30-30 - like an electric peep site, it comes up very easy and gives these old eyes a chance - maybe I should say I do the deer a favor and hit them right!

As Doug mentioned above the Minox 1.5-8x32 seems just about perfect for your needs. I have one and it rates with the Conquests I've owned and that means they're darn good.
Light too at 12 ounces.
I got the German #4 reticle and like it but others think the thick posts are too far apart.

How friendly is it to get behind?
Does it max out around 5x in low light like the specs would suggest?

I haven't noticed anything of the sort during all legal deer hunting hours which are 30 minutes before and after. But then I don't notice that with any of my straight objective scopes either. Never had a scope where I noticed that even in pretty dark timber.
As far as eyebox I find it comparable to my 3-9x40 Conquests.

I think I have a chitty right eye. It needs all the help it can get in really low light. I do notice. BUT, I've got Minox 13x56's, and they are pretty amazing, so I'd expect their scopes to be similarly great optically.
3-9x40 Conquest is one of my favorite scopes to get behind.
Thx for the info!

I use 2x7s and 4x on my rifles with no issues.
Some of my buddies have gone to Burris Fastfires and Leupold Deltapoints on their tracking rifles. They like them a lot.

Have one of these is on a Deerfield .44 and another on my son's Model 7 .260. Will have one on my Model 7, 7mm-08 as soon as I have a forth hole installed in it's receiver for Talleys: http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=BH323946F&src=exrbSrch1.5-4.5x32 Firefly at a very good price. Some don't like them but I do. Has a tri-plex heavy reticle that charges like a luminous watch dial. But in any reasonable situation I've been in the heavy reticle suffices without the luminescent feature. edit: Oops, just saw those 3200s are out of stock now. I'm sure they were on closeout since the new Elites came out. The new model Elite is probably even better just a little higher. Natchez doesn't seem to have them online but advertise in their catalog.
