The search function sucks here and I can't really find much on the 160 gr Nosler Partition when fired out of a 270 Weatherby. I'm looking at getting a gun re barreled to either the 7mm RM or with a take off 270 barrel re chambered to the 270 Wby. I already own the 270 barrel and like both rounds, the field performance between them would very similar, just trying to decide which one to choose. I'm sure there will be all sorts of other suggestions of bullets and that's fine there is just something about heavy semi spitzers I just like, not sure exactly why they are just cool I guess smile

Edit: this would be used for anything from deer sized game to moose.

Trialed these in my standard 270 and got remarkable accuracy using several powders, but could not get much for velocity. Guessing the Weatherby 270 could solve that issue pretty nicely.

The .277" 160gr Partition is a very good bullet in the few instances I've used them.
I'm not certain they are much better than the 150gr Partitons, but they certainly are not worse.

Since Grizzleys or Brown Bears aren't on my agenda's menu... my heavy get'her done bullet in the 270 is the 160 grains SMP partition...

I use H 4831SC to run it at about 2950 fps MV in a 24 inch barrel on a Model 70... might be a hair over specs... but the Winchester don't seem to notice or complain about it...

I've used the 160 Noz in my .270 a bit. Penetrates like a 200 Noz in a 30 cal, and it's accurate and capable. I could easily spend the rest of my days hunting with the 160.

Thanks gents, If my 264 WM doesn't start behaving it may wake up a 270 Wby one day. A bullet like that could definitely be a jr version of a 300 mag but with a lot less recoil.

Which is exactly why God invented 270 and 7mm magnums... smile

I may give these a look in the 270 WSM. 1) Because NPs rock and this slug is built to kill. 2) Because Dober and Bob said so, ya' heard?! laugh

The 160-grain Nosler partition has been very accurate in a couple of .270s in which I've tried them and it actually has a better ballistic coefficient than either the 130- or 140-grain partitions in that caliber.

I ran 160 Partitions at right around 2,900 in a post-64 Win 70 Classic in .270 Wby. It was accurate in my rifle, but I never had the opportunity to shoot anything but feral hogs with it. It did a number on several big (300+ lbs) hogs--all complete pass-throughs. Recoil in the rifle that I had was objectionable and I ended up trading it.

Hunting those, you need know more than a 130 Partition...If you read to much then the 150 Partition but theres not a Moose alive a 130 Partition can't put in your freezer...

The 130 Partition and the 270 Win goes together like peanut butter and jellie in the jar...Just the right twist to make it great.

I have used the 160 Nosler NP at 3000 fps on a lot of elk and deer. Good job always no suprise. My hunting parter and his wife use the 160 277 NP in a pair of pre 64 Win. M70. Its their moose to mice load. I have watch several of the kills they had made on deer and elk. The 277 160 flat hits with a visual effect I can't explain. I stood next him when he hit a raghorn bull in the shoulder at 325 yards. The bull quivered and it looked like his shoulder caved in. If I get another 270 thats the first bullet I would try.

IMR 4831 & CCI 250 for 2750 fps in my old tanger M77 Ruger. They stack right on top of each other @ 100m.

Great bullet IMHO
