I've killed 3 elk with 100 grain Thunderheads. Zero complaints and none went more than 100 yards.
Slick tricks have quite the rep too.

THE broad head for elk is THE one you have on the end of your arrow that your confident in. Any well constructed fixed blade (IMO) with a sufficient total arrow weight and a well placed shot will do the trick. I've used Muzzy MX3's, Slick Tricks and Magnus 2 blades in the past with great results. I'm not going to 'dis expandables either since I've never shot one myself (expect magnus bullheads for Turkeys), but that subject tends to get heated fast for some reason. Use what you know, go with what has worked for you in the past.
God Bless America!

Magnus or woodsman . sliktricks good head too. prefer a COC head.
I would stay away from the expandable heads.

I would use a 125 grain slick trick, a 100 would work but I use the heavier tips for my set up.

Cut on contact, check. Shaving sharp, check. On the end of an arrow TUNED to you and your bow, check. Go forth and kill an elk, checkmate!
I shoot Stos, Magnus 1's or Magnus Stingers. Zwicky and Grizzly's are good too, though I'd like to see some of the Tuffheads up close. Granted, I shoot trad. The wheelie guys seem to like the Slick Tricks though.

The Slick Tricks fly good off of most fast "wheelie" bows, and ryoushi has it right, if the broadhead is dialed in for your bow and arrow, just put it in the right place, the bleed-out will take care of the rest. Good luck.

They're all good. Some will fly better out of your set up than others. I started with Muzzy 3-blade 100's on elk. They worked perfectly, but I want to try Slick Tricks - which I did and killed one blacktail buck. Switched back to Muzzy because their tro-car tip is much harder and sharper that the Tricks tip... bent a bunch of them. I now use the 4-blade 100 grain Muzzy and like it the best of all. They're not expensive, you get practice blades and you can find them just about anywhere archery gear is sold. My last elk was a cow @ 30ish yards - pass thru heart shot. She didn't make it 30 yards from impact The head you have confidence in is the right one for you. Just my $.02....

Ive only got one elk with my bow and I used 100 grain slick tricks and have no complaints. Have also got a few deer and antelope and turkeys with them and they are my broadhead of choice for everything.

I've killed 4 bulls with Muzzys - mostly the 4 blade 90 grainers. They fly great and penetrate like crazy and you can get 6 of them for the price of 3 slick tricks.

For elk I use 100gr G5 CS montecs. Not the sharpest out of the package but sharpen right up to shaving sharp, are harder then most I've used and being one piece they can't fall apart.

either the G5 strikers or montecs are awesome. I typically shoot the strikers because they are sharper a little thinner and I think offer less surface for air to grab and influence the flight. I normally practice with montecs because they are so darn tuff. the strikers I just spin test them and shoot them.
if you are having trouble with your broadheads shooting the same as field points and provided they spin test ok. thats a tuning problem with your rest and can be tuned out.

100 grain Silver Flame worked on my one and only archery elk. A big 6x6 in 2007 in Wyoming, Unit 7 Laramie Peak area. The shot was around 20 yards, double lung pass through, bull went 40 yards and laid down, dying in less than a minute start to finish.

For trad, Ace. For wheelie, Muzzy.
Both are tough as nails. My buddy likes Delta Rothaar Snuffers. Pick your poison, but choose a strong head. The little Rocket Steelheads work great for whitetails, but they invariably come out bent or broken, so I would pick something tougher for game with heavier bones.

Another vote for Slick Tricks. I've successfully used Thunderheads, Muzzies, Montecs, and a few others on white tails but I've been thoroughly impressed with the slick tricks I've used the last couple years.

As often as we see slick tricks mentioned here you would think they even draw the bow for the hunter. They're another broadhead, not a panacea for cryin' out loud. I swear if I hear that name again I'm gonna hurl.

I shot a 4 blade, 125 Magnus Stinger through a shoulder blade freshly taken from a mature cow elk just to see how it would do. The arrow was a 445 grain easton axis, from a 51 lb. recurve. From about 15 yards, it passed through the shoulder blade and lodged several inches deep into an old half-rotten stump I had the shoulder propped up against. That broadhead could have been sharpened and reused, but I have not bowhunted since.
I also shot one clean through a 122 lb. field-dressed whitetail doe from a 46 lb. longbow at about 25 yards. They fly just like my field points, come razor sharp from the package, and are pretty tough. I probably won't ever use anything else.

I swear if I hear that name again I'm gonna hurl. It's because they work and are decently priced. I might go with Montec's or Razor Tricks this year for pigs. I like COC broadhead's and those look like a good way to go.

I won't say the name of the broadhead (no puking wanted) I'd choose for wapiti but the initials are ST. I haven't killed that many deer with them but they haven't failed to this point. IIRC I've been using them for 4 seasons, successfully. 100gr Magnum ST

Silver Flames are equivalent to a custom knife at the end of your arrow. There is no quality equal that I have encountered. Any broadhead through both lungs or the heart will do the job so pick one that shoots.

Never hunted elk, but if I did I wouldn't be afraid to use a Slick Trick Magnum 100 out of my AlphaMax32...

I'm considerably behind the new-tech curve, but I cant see me doing any better than the old tried and true [for me] Muzzy fixed 3-blade 125 gn head, they like to say its bad to the bone. I have found it's bad THROUGH the bone. Gunner

Whatever you pick, make sure they are mounted straight, spin perfectly and that you shoot each arrow with the broadhead and dull blades attached. Sometimes you get a carbon shaft that doesn't fly quite right with a broadhead mounted. I don't use expandables so no comment on them. Also, have some helical or offset on your fletch to stabilize fixed blade heads.
I have killed over 30 elk with the bow and arrow. Zwickey, Magnus, MA3, NAP Thunderheads and for the last decade Rocky Mt steel or titanium 3 blade heads have all worked great at killing elk. I had to go to a head with a fair amount of blade venting when arrow speeds went up over 240 fps to ensure good accuracy.

I love the Muzzy heads. Put your arrow where Blacktail did and the broadhead becomes a moot point ...
Will try expandables next time my bow is re-rigged, which will be this fall if I draw no rifle deer tag.
I do not entertain hypotheticals. The world itself is vexing enough. -- Col. Stonehill
