So, as I look at my 1899A in .30-30 I notice that it doesn't say "Savage 1899" anywhere on the rifle. The only marking on the receiver is the 16,6xx serial number on the bottom. The barrel is marked with "Savage" and the address with some patent dates and the caliber of .30. That's it on the whole rifle. Am I missing something? Is there something wrong? This rifle has undoubtedly been totally refinished and I believe it has several replacement parts but I don't think markings have been sanded off. What gives? Thanks guys.

nothing wrong. Have no fear... the early guns did not say SAVAGE MODEL 1899 on the receiver ring.
You are good to go... and as for the "crack"... I stop fretting that also and go shot the gun personally... but that is just me and its your hand, eye, face, etc...
