Do you apply anything to threads when putting on barrel and to what does it get torqued? Thanks

I put moly paste on so the threads don't gall and I can get it tighter, easier. I don't use a torque wrench but I am guessing around 100 ft/lbs

I use white lithium grease and i don't put barrel on that tight. I tighten the barrel hand tight and then give the wrench one light rap with my brass hammer and that is as tight as you need.

I use rig stainless grease and torque to 35 ft pounds, I use custom actions or trued rem actions with holland lugs and most of my guns are switch barrels

your rifle barrels sound about right, because most people put barrels on to tight

According to the learned Mr. Vaughn (Rocket scientist) as well as Greg Tannel and others, 200+ is NOT enough. How tight does Remington put them on?
100 ft/lbs might be more than I use but I do lean on the wrench so it has to be more than 50.
Moly paste is far better than lithium as is never seize. I read somewhere that the metal particles in never seize can affect final fitment, that is why I switched to Moly paste. I know Mike Bryant uses the same stuff as I do and we discovered it independently of each other. Brownells sells it (their label) and it is dang pricey!

I use an old jar of Tru-Kote Barrel Thread Protector, but Brownell's Barrel Assembly Paste would work, as would Never Seize. On Remington barrels with a Savage type nut I torque them down to 40 ft lbs measured with a torque wrench, same as the Savage. Bergara Barrels use a smooth nut that tightens with a canvas strap wrench, no way of knowing how tight they are. Both shoot under .5" consistently though, so that seems to be enough.

I would sure like to know how tight Weatherby is putting the barrels on the Vangards. I bet they are on there in the neighborhood of 300 pounds. It's not uncommon to have to give them 4 or 5 good whacks with an 8 pound hammer to knock them loose. They do come off nice and clean. Looks to be just a light oil in there. Remingtons are full of some sort of thread locker. We use Never Sieze on everthing to put them back together. 100 foot pounds is our target weight.
