10. The season's longer.
9. The tags are cheaper.
8. The ammo's cheaper.
7. Packing out is easier.
6. No "hunter orange" clown suit requirement.
5. No "check-in" requirement.
4. No tree stands.
3. Any old weapon will work (flintlock, rimfire, bow, air rifle, shotgun, pistol, even centerfire).
2. No glassing for horn size.
1. It gives me an excuse to shoot grandpa's Savage 19!

And the GREATEST REASON OF ALL....
They taste better. - at least I think they taste better than any other species of wild game, bar none.
Save an elk, shoot a cow.

there is a local elderly gent here that is the ultimate squirrel hunter. he gets his limit each day he hunts. skins them. debones them, and grinds them into groung meat. he makes paddies from them the and freezes them. its not unusual for him to have taken 100 squirrels a month. he fries burgers , makes chili. meat loaf. meatballs for spaghetti. and anything else he needs ground meat for.he does not hunt deer or any big game other than Turkeys.

I still enjoy squirrel hunting and make it a point to collect the makings for squirrel gravy and biscuits several times each year.

There is no better practice for deer hunting. Plus they're yummy!
EVERYBODY is pro-gun, some just don't know it. When an anti-gun person is in trouble, the first thing they do is call 911 and demand that they send somebody with a gun!

My first hunting experiences as a young boy were for gray squirrels. At 59 I still love to hunt them and find them excellent table fare.

I love deer hunting, and most any other hunting for that matter and am anxiously awaiting hunting season to roll back around. More than deer though, I'm looking forward to those cool fall mornings when the leaves and mast are still in the trees so I can get out there and drop the hammer on some squirrels. I have a few new "squirrel guns" I'm looking forward to putting to use: a Browning Auto-22 in .22 Short and a couple of Savage single barrel scatter guns, an old 220A 16ga and a 94 .410.
