I traded for this old Win 62A some years back, and noticed it had what appears to be British proof marks and roll stampings. It's a bad picture, but it has rolled stamped right above Winchester ' 22LR .610" 8 TONS PER Square '

It also has M 192 crudely stamped on the barrel over 194 (?) mark.

Has a really nice Parker Hale AgA tang sight installed.

Serial Number is 14000X. Are these markings normal or was this some sort of lend-lease gun?

They are a joy to carry and shoot. I have 62 and a 63 but like the 62 best.

So far I have been able to determine that the gun was made in 1942. The british proof marks are from the Birmingham Proof House. But the roll mark "22LR .610" 8 TONS PER Square " seems to have only been required after the 1954 proof act. Anybody know if it was in use earlier than that?

I've been doing more reasearch on the history of this rifle and have found out from a collector in Sydney AU that the M 192 stamp was assigned to the P H Arms Co which was a subsiderary of the Parker Hale company. He claims that you dont see many commercial .22 rifles with the military crossed pennent proof marks. He also claims to have a war time Metropolitan Police firearms training manual which illustrates (line drawing) a pump action .22 rifle similar to the Winchester above. Perhaps the Police got pump action rifles with bolt actions going to the Army.

I suppose that none of this adds much value to the gun, but it is intresting to know it's history includes some sort of service in Britian during WWII.
