Looks like a good buy to me. Anytime you can get a clean M70 for under $1000 you're doing good in my book. And to get a 1949 is even better. IMHO you have just about the best year M70 ever built if you plan on using it for hunting with a scope. The only year would be better IMO would be an 1948 if it was drilled and tapped and had a high comb on it.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

In todays market I'd say you got a steal. I have a low comb from 1948 in 270. I have hunted with it the most in the past 10 years.

jimmy, the reason there are more savage 99s in you 99 looneys hands is because i fell off the lever wagon and jumped back on the bot wagon......maybe someday ill get back to the 99s

shot the 270, 3 shot group of just under an inch at 75 yards...without cooking a load for the rifle. plenty accurate to whack a deer, just a matter whether i carry this or my nicer pre 64 30-06

One thing I noticed in the ad is it said it is a 1949 but the serial number says differently.....I'd say by that it was made in 1953. Dang good deal though and glad to see it shoots good. Side note, I'd use the 270 for deer and the 06 for elk just cause....

06 FOR ELK WOULD BE AWESOME.....HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER BEEN ELK HUNTING. I HAVE TAKEN AROUND 50-60 WHITETAILS, NEVER ANYTHING ELSE IN THE BIG GAME FIELDS. MAYBE WHEN THE BOY GETS OLDER WE WILL DO A DAD SON ELK HUNT!

There were six bids between $750 an $795, so it looks like you will have no trouble getting 90% of your money back or more.
Did you get it to hunt or just to have a nice Pre-1950 Model 70?
I have a 1949 Model 70. I like it, but it is a bit big for me, and if I hunted it would not be my first choice.
