Yes you can. RSA and Namibia can make that happen. Budget $10k for the hunt, $2500 for airfare, go easy on the taxidermy and you are good to go.

Here is a speadsheet that I worked up for some friends using Cruiser Safaris pricing and my Taxidermist pricing

Airfare $2,000.00

8 Day Safari ( includes 5 animals) $3,950.00
additional day $295

Afton House B& B $100.00 1 night

Tips - PH and camp Staff $1,200.00

Dipping and packing $1,000.00

Air freight ( for trophies ) $900.00 (This was for 10 animals )
Plus back hides

Clear customs ( for trophies) $400.00

Taxidermy
Kudu Shoulder mount $950.00

Blesbok Shoulder mount $695.00

Impala Shoulder mount $695.00

Wildebeast Shoulder mount $695.00

Warthog Shoulder Mount $695.00

Add your wife for about $ 1200.00 and you are under the $15K .

You could trim some costs if you worked on it and rememeber this does not come all at one time , it is spread out over a couple of years due to booking 1 1/2 year before you go.

A shoulder mount of his wife for $1200? Isn't that illegal or something? grin

I'm wondering if that's what one would call mixed feelings? Seeing the wife on the wall (smiling, because she always smiles), yet now you have the opportunity of saying something without being interrupted and no matter what I say, she's still smiling at me grin

I probably should have added this to my OP so folks would know up front. I am looking at 2013 or possibly 2014 to do this safari. I'm in the middle of a major house renovation and right now that's where my funds are being spent.

Once again, I would like to thank all those that have replied to my thread and sent me pm's with lots of info. You gents are a wealth of info and your assistance is much appreciated.

Hunter: Even if you are looking at 14 it's not uncommon to start planning and booking this early, particularly with a top notch operator. To give you an idea, I hesitated and now I'm on the 2015 waiting list for leopard in the Bubye Conservancy with John Sharp.

Leopard, now that sounds like fun. I've read a good number of stories on AR about leopard hunting, i'm sure you will be stoked when your time comes to go after Mr Spots.

Once my remodel is finished I will be able to devote some more of my free time into researching the info that I will need to make this happen. Until then, i'll be watching this site and AR for more stories and info.

It pays to do your "homework" when considering and planning a leopard hunt. The best "cat men" are booked solid at least a couple years in advance.

If you were to consider Cruiser Safaris , you will have to book on March 1st or after of 2013 to go in 14 . They will not begin booking until afternoon on March 1st for the folowing year.
I will be one that is on the phone until I get to book my dates for '14 .
I have put it off 2 years and will not wait another smile

AK,

As others have mentioned with proper planning you can do a hunt in South Africa or Namibia for under 15 K. I would like to emphasize that even with proper planning you should have extra funds available if something bad should happen or if you decide to take extra animals.

I would also suggest that if you are going to take your wife make sure that she is comfortable and happy. You only get one shot at your first trip to Africa so make it count. If you prepare properly your wife will have the time of her life and will support you in going again.
