just came into an older 336 marlin. just how old is the question.

can't find a serial number anywheres. gold trigger, straight stock (no pistol grip). says 336 RC, 30-30 (winchester not stated).

walnut stock has either been refinished in oil finish or came that way. the magazine tube goes to within a half inch of the end of the barrel. front sight has two screws attachment.

can anyone hazard a guess as to at least how old? thanks.

There is a serial number somewhere on your rifle.Look to the rear of the leaver or just behind the hammer.Once you find the serial number post the first two numbers and someone here can tell you the year of manufacture or go to marlinowners.com and they have a list you can check out for yourself.

heh, thank's y'all. yep, the serial number and ltr were there.

my eyes are getting less strong. put on the reading glasses and got under a good light. sure enough, the numbers were right there under the lever. i'd sworn there wasn't a number on it.

it's a V to start. looked up on another thread here. it's date of mfg is 1962. it's in pretty good shape. haven't fired it yet.

thanks.

sorry. i'm not technologically advanced enough to own a camera, (or a cellphone).

it had been in a storage bin until i liberated it. some stains on the metal after cleaning up, but no pits that i can see. but you know how poorly i can see.

i've loaded it with 150 grain remington core-lokts that the ticket says i purchased back in 1992. it seems to load and eject fine, but still have not fired it.

i might go back to a more simple way of deer hunting like when i started out. a gun, knife, a drag rope, some ammo (1 shell in each pocket), and a jacket and blue jeans. walk until the does show up, and drag out a yearling.
